ECP1989 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Has anyone here tried the Citica? I used to use the old green Curados and don't wanna spend $200 on the new Curados? Are the new one's worth the $80 more dollars or is the citica the better choice for the money? Quote
links_man2 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I have 3 Citica's and like them all. No problems at all. Quote
RiskKid. Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 The Citica is a fine reel. I would be surprised if you were not pleased with it. Quote
blade Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 citica is a good reel but I believe the curado will last longer. I had a citica and fished with it for around 8 months and it played out on me. But I have the old green curados that are around 10 years old and still use them. I have a new curado i have had for alittle over a year and it is a sweet reel diffently worth the extra $80 Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I bought a new Citica in December. I sent it back to Shimano a couple of weeks back after it started making wierd noises during casting, and the casting distance was cut in half. I hope to get it back soon. I believe my problem was an isolated one. However, in researching my problem, I've read where Shimano has been forced to fix many problems with the worm gear on the new Citica. It's a very popular reel, but would I buy another? Not likely. Quote
kms399 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I have 4 citica's and 3 of the old green curado's and I actually like the citica's better they just feel better imo. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 27, 2007 Super User Posted July 27, 2007 Show me a better reel for that price and I'll buy 3 of them. Quote
TxBuddha Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I've got....well let's say I've got several Citica's, all bought this year and all fished this year. No problems noted so far. There was an issue with the early releases involving the level wind that have since been resolved and to my knowledge any reels that had the issue were handled under warranty. I'd say go for it! Super User ww2farmer Posted July 27, 2007 Super User Posted July 27, 2007 Show me a better reel for that price and I'll buy 3 of them. Team Daiwa Advantage, and it's actually cheaper at $99 MSRP Quote

Super User .RM. Posted July 28, 2007 Super User Posted July 28, 2007 The Citica reel is a fine reel no doubt about it. The older Curado B series will always considered the work horse of the Shimano® line, and the Citica has taken it's place. TxBuddha, is right when the new models came out their was a tolerance issue in the line carriage supports that was fixable for free. The newer models have been taken care of as far a that issue is concerned. ww2farmer, The Daiwa® advantage, is a good reel. But as a reel tech that was trained at both factories 25 years ago, I can honestly say that IMPO Daiwa® was and has always been chasing Shimano® technology. Tight Lines All!!!! Quote
shimanogloomis man Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 very well said reelmechanic My cuz and friend have the citica and is a Kick @ss reel very smoooth and cast better then my curado bsf.U cant go wrong ;D Quote
mike22 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 IMO, the Citica is the best reel for the money right now. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 WestCoast, for what it's worth, I picked up a new Curado 100DSV back in March, was comparing to the Citica. I love the Curado, but after careful thought, other than color & handle, the Citica was just as smooth. Could have nearly bought 2 Citicas for the one Curado. Really, the new Citicas are great reels. Super User senile1 Posted July 28, 2007 Super User Posted July 28, 2007 I haven't had any problems with Citicas. They are great reels for the price. That's not to say there aren't other great reels in this price range. Quote
The Next KVD Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Great reel to replace the old Curado's price ;D! I know I'm going to buy some more. Quote
skillet Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I haven't used as many different named reels as lot of the other members, so maybe my reply won't hold as much water. I bought one of the early releases and it was fixed under waranty (line carriage). As far as I'm concerned I don't think you're gonna get a better reel for that price... As Ever, skillet Quote
