Trent, B Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I was thinking about buying some megastrike. Do yall think it is a good attractant or is there somthing better you think I should get? Id love to hear any suggestions. Thanks Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I like megastrike because its easy to apply, and its not messy at all. If you didn't know already, its almost like a patroleum jelly that has a garlicy smell to it heh. I don't apply it to my skirts though, it seems to make them stick together, and pick up dirt/change a darker color for me. So I only add it to soft plastic baits. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 19, 2007 Super User Posted September 19, 2007 Megastrike is one of the best -if not the best- attractant that I have tried Quote
Branuss04 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I have used a few other scents in the past, but am currently on a "Megastrike" kick right now. From my experience, I don't know if it's way better than any other scent, but it is easy to apply as a "Jelly" and moderately priced. I actually just ordered 2 tubes of the "Crawfish" scent. brandon Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I can't say for sure that it definitely helps, but in my mind it does, and I don't feel comfortable throwing plastics without first applying some. Sometimes when the bite is tough I'll even apply it to my hard baits. Just the other night I was having a tough time with a rattletrap, so I smeared some Megastrike on both sides, and within two casts caught a fish. Can't say it was because of the attractant because there are so many more important variables, but I will say that I have a lot of confidence in the stuff, and that I believe it works well. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Forgot to mention a side note in my previous post... I watched this episode of Roland Martin and he was fishing wrecks for Jewfish using 5-10 lb Jacks for bait (I think they were Jacks). I laughed out loud when he went on one of his blatant and annoying rants endorsing a product, in this case MegaStrike. He freakin' smeared a bunch of MegaStrike all over this 8 pound dead Jack, saying it would probably help. Totally ridiculous, putting MegaStrike on actual bait. Anyway, just thought I'd share that little ditty. Quote

Pretty much where I stand on megastrike as well- Quote
Deuceu72 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I swear by this stuff. i always apply to soft plastics.......and jigs including the skirt..........To keep the skirt for clinging together, just pull your fingers through the strands from top to bottom......... Quote
dman Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I never use attractant, never really believed in it. How many casts do you guys take before applying more. Seems like you could go through one of tubes on every trip? Quote
Davis Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I never use attractant, never really believed in it. How many casts do you guys take before applying more. Seems like youcould go through one of tubes on every trip? From my understanding Megastrike is almost like a vaseline/petroleum type based stuff. It doesn't come off easy at all from what I have heard. Some people have said they can fish with a plastic for a week wtih the scent still on, if the plastic isn't all beat up. Again this is just what I have heard. I do plan on making a purchase before the spawn next year. I too don't usually believe in attractants but if it holds up as long as I heard, I would think it would be a great investment. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I hardly ever "reapply" to a bait...........I usually will go through a tube in a year and a half..........keep in mind that I do live in Colorado so i dont get to fish from Nov-April or so...........except when I go to the Co State Team Tourny @ Amistad!! Whoo-hoo!! I cant wait for the end of Feb!! Quote
bpm2000 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 It stays on real well. I fished a hard bait last week with this stuff on it and put it away, took it out yesterday and got a handful of slimy @#$ on my hand! Whether it works or not though... thats another question. I haven't felt like it has made any difference. I just have it for lubing swimbaits with. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 20, 2007 Super User Posted September 20, 2007 I discussed Mega Strike with the president of the company and he is extemely knowledgable about scents and attractants. Mega Strike has amino acids that break down the secents so the bass can smell and taste them. Remember, almost all scents and attractants have a petroleum base and the bass cannot taste or smell these petro molucules. Mega Strike has a petro base but the big difference is with the amino acids. I keep lures with Mega Strike on them in my tackle box and have never had any slime or other problems. In the future, I may want to place the crankbaits in the dishwasher to get them clean and remove all attractrant. Read Dr. Keith Jones book and you will note how much a difference a good scent can make when fishing for largemouth bass and other species. Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Megastrike is my to go to attactant. ive used many other kinds of attactant before megastrike however but i prefer megastrike. i like its ease to use and the fact its less messy which is a big bonus as a co angler when fishing in someone elses boat. i also apperciate the fact that megastrike has essential ammo acids that bass need and crave in their foods which helps make this attactant so effective. Fish dont want to let go when they get a dose of megastrike in my opoin. Quote
Joel W Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I also use Megastrike but not as a fish attractant, as I've never seen any real difference in the number of hits using any attractant vs not using them. But I honestly feel that the Megastrike does cause the fish to hold onto the lure for a longer period of time. Quote
