Slick00 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I'm looking to spool up my new baitcasting reel. This reel will be used mainly for bass and walleye. I have never used a baitcasting reel for bass ...always a spinning reel. I'm a recent convert to baitcasting. I have used Spectron on big musky reels and like it. However, a braid seams like overkill for bass and the like, but I really like the qualities of a braid. Does braid tend to spook bass? Should I stick with mono? What do you guys like or dislike (brand, test, etc.)? Quote
BassPonder72 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Welcome to the forum! Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 The Hybrid is a copolymer. Its my personal favorite. I wouldn't call braid overkill. There's a time & place for braid in Bass fishing. Quote

Slick00 Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 What are the differences between copolymer and mono? Quote
paleo Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 you will get lots of opinions on this which tells me there are lots of good lines ,it is more what you find you like but i like seguar invizx in 12lb it is 100% flourocarbon so it wont be seen as easily by the fish, it sinks fast, and cast well , but you will probally have to experiment to find what you like , there are some lines that most people agree are junk so do some research on this forum and you will see what not to try good luck to you Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 13, 2007 Super User Posted July 13, 2007 What are the differences between copolymer and mono? Most of what we call mono is a nylon line. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a nylon core, bonded with fluorocarbon, which gives is more abrasion resistance and lower visibility in the water. The flouro will also make it seem just a little stiffer. It's good line but be forewarned that if you get a kink in it (like you get in a backlash) there will be a significant weak spot and you'll need to cut out that portion of line. I still use Hybrid for some applications but my "normal" line is XT and I also like Suffix (Siege and Elite) Quote
