Del from philly Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Berkley "Iron Silk" I gotta say, the name sold me....... I got this real cheap on sale, been using it for a few weeks..... and i have mixed feelings.... HELP ME OUT casting- not good at all, and the string can catch itself and tangle pretty bad sometimes nots- good stuff, i love tying this stuff feel- kind of heavy feel, not very sensitive visibility- its dark green, but is apparently less visible then it looks like strength- A+, you gotta cut this line to break it, some strong stuff durability- it almost feels like it is soft on the outside, and gets nicked up pretty easy, but i still have yet to see it break Anybody care to help me sway to one side.......anyone use this stuff before? it definately needs help, but has some better aspects.... Super User roadwarrior Posted July 6, 2007 Super User Posted July 6, 2007 We have had several threads recently discussing Iron Silk. Some guys like it, some of us think it is "THE WORST" line ever made. (Others say Vanish deserves the title). Quote
Lightninrod Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!! It stretches like salt water taffy >. Dan Quote
basspro48 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 garbage...along with almost every other brand of Berkley line... Quote
Pond Hopper Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 The spool I got had the memory and castability of tie wire :-X I was not impressed at all and agree with RW's statement. Quote
surfer Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Iron more than silk. I use it as backer with confidence. Quote
basser89 Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Iron more than silk. I use it as backer with confidence. I have A spool as well. It's ONLY used as a backer for good line! Way too much memory for me! But at least its good for something Vanish will never make it as backer line on my reels! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 7, 2007 Super User Posted July 7, 2007 Stuff reminded me of that green wire the florists use. I got a spool for free and gave it away. Just feeling that stuff on the spool was an immediate turnoff. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 7, 2007 Super User Posted July 7, 2007 The absolutely worse line I've ever spooled on a reel > As some here know I work for Academy so I'll let y'all in on a secret; if it's on sale real cheap it's because it's junk that would not move at the normal price. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 I have to go with everyone on this=JUNK I put it as backing too. In fact let me put it this way Too bad of a line to put on a good reel! Quote
justfishin Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I think it's a very poor line. We all experiment with lines and I am as guilty as the next guy. For me and spinning reels its #6 Yozuri Soft, #8 Excel. For baitcasters and flippin with #20 test its XT and for wormin and pitchin Jigs its #12-#17 Big Game and #12 YS, bottom line. JMHO Quote
