I was thinking about getting  a "finesse" reel like the diawa  Liberto Pixy super finesse. I was wondering if anyone has tried these ultralight reels and if they will cast the micro-cranks and other finesse baits like the adds claim.

Thanks

Here is a review of the Pixy

http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwapixy.html

Here is an excerpt  from the review:

... Casting: Those of you who have tried to cast split shot rigs with a baitcasting setup, have probably met with similar results as we - marginal success at best. The awkward placement of the weight, eighteen inches or so above the worm, and the sheer weightlessness of the setups themselves makes life difficult with conventional gear. Heavier weights alleviate this problem but also reduce the effectiveness of the split shot rig. Needless to say, with this past experience, we were pretty skeptical of this reel's ability to handle these same setups. All doubt was removed, however, after rigging the rod up and watching the size 737-3/0 split shot drop effortlessly to the deck of the boat when the reel was clicked over into freespool. From that moment it was game-on. We were able to achieve approximate casting distances of up to fifty feet with this weight and a number two straight shank worm hook with a four inch curly tail worm attached. Heavier split shots resulted in slightly further distances and all drop shot and crank bait casts were met with little resistance. Not one of us were yearning for our spinning gear while fishing this reel...

I am looking to get one myself this year but I think the real challenge is finding a suitable rod.

Instead of that I would go for a Team Daiwa SOL.

The Pixy will outcast and outperform a Sol in an eyeblink with an arm tied to it 's back.

I have two Pixies the first time I tried one tied a weightless Zoom finesse worm ( which doesn 't really weight that much ), aimed at my intended target, made the cast and ......uh oh !, :-? casted past my intended target by 20 ft ;), I thought the Scorpion Mg was good for this kind of stuff ( casting finesses baits ) but the Pixy left me like this ---> .

Paired to a GLoomis CR721 it becomes the ultimate finesse mean fishing machine, the only drawback with the reel is that the drag is on the light side so you need your hooks to be razor sharp and when rigging baits with hidden hooks ( T-rig, Florida, C-rig ) is better to texpose the hook.

...and it is NOT pink!

A soft, muted or subtle red is how it might be described.

There 's a person in TT selling a Silver Mica RH for $225.

Silver Micas are mainstream Pixies ( colored Pixies are limited edition ). It 's an excellent price.

What's the going price for a pixy ?? Who will or is selling it in the states ??

1.- $300-330

2.- The only person selling Pixies in the US Brooklyn Bill 's  Tackle Shop. Excellent person and businessman, highly recommended dealer. Otherwise, if you want to put your hands on a Pixy is either through e-bay ( they ocassionally pop up in the US auctions ) or through a japanese dealer like GinRinPeche, Plat, Ichibantackle or Japantackle, all of them also highly recommended.

I just purchased a Curado 100D to throw my really light cranks and worms.  I wish I could stretch $300 for a reel, but its not going to happen.  I paired it up with a Bass Pro Finess rod.

I broke down and purchased the pixy from BrooklynBill. I absolutely love it. So far I have only used it once and I caught a couple of perch. I throws the little micro cranks with ease. I have been looking for and ultralight casting rod. So far no luck but maybe someone out there knows where to look. Thanks for all y'alls help and good fishin.

I'm glad you chose the pixy over the sol.

NO contest IMHO.

I just sold my cr721 but  my cr 722 GLX works beautifully for ultra light baitcasting.

It has a little more backbone than the 721 and there is no appreciable difference in casting.  The 722 is only available in IMX so that may have something to do with it, but I doublt it.

the issue of hooksetting power is easily resolved with the use of circle hooks.  I use owner mutu light circle hooks usually size 1 for small plastics.  It's really amazing how well these work.  You just start reeling after detecting the strike, and as the rod loads up I give it a little lift while still reeling.   It's almost as if it takes the bass a minute to realize he is hooked.  My hookup percentage is excellent, and the bass are almost always hooked in the corner of the jaw for a clean easy removal.
