Hello everybody.

I bought some #30 power pro for my daiwa procaster baitcaster and so far i've lost 2 spinners and a flipping jig due to the line snapping on the cast.  I dont think it was due to the line getting scratched up or anything because i lost my first spinner on my 2nd cast with power pro.

Does anyone know why this keeps happening?  at first i thought it was cause i used the palomar knot (i had to pull pretty hard to close the looping part) so i added a flouro leader using an albright knot, but it still snapped on me.

could it be rubbing against something in my reel or rod?  or some faulty line?  im pretty disillusioned so far with power pro as i bought this line so i wouldnt lose as many lures...

im considering throwing the pp in the trash and just using #20 p-line fluoro clear.

You're not a Sufix Rep are you? ;D

Actually, a very common complaint with PowerPro is the "inability" to break the line.

Other than a bad batch, line-breakage is a rare event with braid, even after it's been rubbing the hull and engine shaft.

The first thing I would do is check the tip-top guide for a crack or ding, using an eye-loop and a cotton swab.

I had that problem with a 150 yard spool and I got rid of the line, got new line, informed Power Pro...and they took care of it.  1 week later I had a 330 yard spool on the doorstep and havent had problems since.  There are occassional bad batches like anything, just inform them and they should take care of you.   :o

I have been using it for 4 years without any problems.  Like stated above you must have a bad batch or a spot on you rod that is nicking it.  The only problem I have with it is it frays in rocks and needs to be checked once in a while.

Take a cotton ball and run it through all rod eyes. The cotton will tag any place on the eye-loop that could be nicking your line.

Where are the breaks taking place?  By the lure's knot or up the line?

If the breaks occur by any knots then you may need to reconsider the type of knot you are tying.

If the break other places above the lure, may I suggest keeping the portion of the remaining line and sending it as a sample to the manufacturer?  The manufacturer wants to know if there is a bad batch of line out there.

Let us know what happens.  I have not had any problems with any braid and I still use the Polomar knot when using braid although I have been told not to do so.

kb here    have used the green power pro for 4years   the new yellow and red this year and yet to have any one break     has to be a bad batch  kb

It is not likely but possible if the can rule out the other items, but how are you casting? Are you using a very quick snap/whip cast. That combined with a heavier lure might snap the line as result of some serious shock to the line. Like I said, not too likely but it is possible.

Because braid doesn't stretch much, it would rather snap when under great shock because there isn't much give. Just a thought.

I am leaning however toward a bad batch myself. Such as you have described I have not yet experienced with ppro.

Maybe your not tying the right knot and that will cause the knot so slip on your cast.

If not, it must be a bad batch!

Im hoping it is just a bad batch, ive heard a lot of good things about it.. and my friend bought at the same time as me and hasnt had any problems.

the type of cast i usually do is kind of a underhand side throw.. ive had 17 lb mono on it before and haev never had this problem.

im not really sure where the break is, it usually backlashes when it snaps and the line goes through the guides or is snapped somewhere in the guides.

i'll try the cottom ball technique to check my guides tonight then

(actually, when i first used the line, it had some powdery substance all over the line.  is that normal?  i assume it might be the teflon coating? )

To my knowledge, there's no teflon in PowerPro line (it's slippery enough).

In any event, if you're willing to give it another go, I'm willing to bet that even if you abuse your equipment,

your rod will likely break before your PowerPro :o
