turfman Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Buying a new baitcaster. Anyone tried the BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series and who makes BPS reels? If I don't go this way considering the St. Croix Avid with Diawa Zillion. Quote
turfman Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 That's what my gut tells me. I own 5 St. Croix rods now, love them. I went to a large tackle dealer today and tried most available reels they didn't have any Abu Revo's (I'm curious about those) Flueger & Quantum didn't appear to have the quality of Shimano & Diawa. After handling the Diawa seemed to be the better reel. I own a Curado now and like it but the Diawa Zillion feel waaaay nicer. Should I have any concerns. And regarding St. Croix - I have all Premier rods now, are the Avid's worth the extra $$ for a Cranking rod or go with the Premier Glass Crankbait Rod? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 28, 2007 Super User Posted June 28, 2007 i'd go with the johnny morris.the reels are nice and the rods are awesome.it comes with fuji titanium framed sic guides and the avid doesn't.it also has the best reel seat in the business.if you ever break it you bring it to a bass pro store and they give you a new one even if the 1 year warranty is over. turfman Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 I've decided on the St. Croix Premier Glass Crankbait Rod. Now tossing between Daiwa Zillion or Shimano Chrono or Curado. Anyone tried the Zillion? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 28, 2007 Super User Posted June 28, 2007 You will like the Shimano Chronarch a lot. Certainly at the pricing point, this is the finest reel made. Most Chronach owners will argue that his is the best baitcasting reel at ANY price! Buy this reel and you will not be disappointed. This is quite literally, a reel that you will love for a lifetime. Regarding St. Croix rods: The Avid series is SIGNIFICANTLY superior to the Premier series. Again, you will NOT be disappointed. Quote
turfman Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 I was going to get the Avid but keep hearing about Glass for Crankbaits! Quote
turfman Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 I own all Shimano reels now, so I stick with Shimano. Which Chronarch do I want for a Crankbait rod and/or Rattle Traps? Quote
