Bauerus Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Has anyone purchased a new reel on eBay? Seems like some good prices for Quantum PT Energy reels and others. Are these factory seconds? How can these people sell a reel that retails for ±$180-$190 for < $120? Or is the retail mark up just that huge at regular shops? Almost seem that it would pay to become a "dealer" and buy say 10 reels at wholesale and sell off 9 on eBay and make a profit LOL. Just curious. Cheers from the jungles of Belize Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 25, 2007 Super User Posted June 25, 2007 I have purchased many reels through e-bay, you can find really good prices and who knows maybe even do a little money in the process. From the people I 've purchased NIB reels, all of them were NIB, no factory seconds. Quote
xxmurrxx Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I bought a nee reel off ebay. Came factory wrapped and worked fine. If your buying from an Ebay Store that has a lot of fishing equipment you should not have a problem. But a lot of the "cheap" things on ebay nail you with expensive shipping costs so watch for that. Super User flechero Posted June 25, 2007 Super User Posted June 25, 2007 I've purchased 5-6 new reels from the ebay stores in the past 2 years and I couldn't be happier. I paid $205 for 50MG's with no tax and free shipping. (bought 3 at that price) The funny thing is that the only "trouble" i have had this year are on reels that came from BPS and Cabela's. Quote
bassdocktor Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I've purchased several reels through Ebay. All of them have been Quantum Energy baitcasters. I'm not sure about the price deal but if you can find some one with a Tour card, probably someone sponsored, you'll see how cheap the reels can be. I haven't had a problem. The seller I used was someone like OhYeahSales, they seemed to be the cheapest on the Energies at the time. Quote
volpster31 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 ive bought a few reels off of ebay & have had no problems at all.....i would reccomend buying from am ebay store, but ive bought a couple off of people only selling 1 reel & it was exactly as it was described...ive even bought a couple used quantum ex501 models that were in great shape....one piece of advice:READ THE DESCRIPTION 2 OR 3 TIMES BEFORE YOU BUY good luck Quote
RiskKid. Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I have bought a few and have had no problems. They all were new and as advertised. I did buy from sellers that had very good feedback ratings. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 26, 2007 Super User Posted June 26, 2007 I would be careful buying used reels. We have one local guy who has bought 2900 of the "didn't work returned to BPS" reels and sold them on ebay. Quote
wickyman Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I buy many things through ebay, though I would prefer to buy my items new from a local shop, just to make sure that it works correctly. I like to see what I am buying, and feel it. If I buy anything from ebay, it's because I can't get it locally! I recently bought a, "LNIB" Abu Garcia ambassadeur Maxxar reel, at a yard sale. I only bought it because I liked the way it looked and felt. That wasn't an impulse buy, but more of a, "I like the way this thing feels!". It needs a little oil, and to be gone through, but almost as perfect as the day it was bought!. Yard sales are great, you find some great things! If you know what you are looking for. To make a long story short, this yard sale had all sorts of newer items also, I just felt that this older low profile reel needed a new home on my rack. I am buying a brand new shimano pole for it at a local shop. I can't wait to get this thing in the water! Quote
sodaksker Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I have bought many NIB "new in box" reels and never had a problem. Used on the othe hand, I have bought one, and it was junk. No more used reels for me. Quote
wickyman Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 It's not really that bad, when you think about it, to just buy a used reel, and replace certain items. If you can get a hold of any super cheap, and replace parts, you are still spending less than new, and it's practically new... I want to just replace bearings, and washers and such in my reel, only because I am anal about that kind of stuff. But really, if you buy used from anyone, make sure that it is someone that you know, and trust... Quote
Bauerus Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 Thanks all that replied. I scored a new Quantum Energy 760PT on eBay for $122.00 over night. So when I emerge from the jungles here in Belize and hit Michigan it will be waitng for me. Even had the wife's blessing once I showed here the list price of $180.00 From BassPro Shops ;D Now if my rod will be up to the task is the next quesiton... Hmm now I undrstand why the pros have soooo many differnt rigs. You might want a different color Power Worm and do not want to take time to tie one on. Just pick up the pumpkin or maybe the purple worm rig and set down the watermelon LOL. /me Quote
