J_Young Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I was wanting to hear you guys opinions on the best all around line. I only have the luxury of owning 1 rod and reel, a Pflueger President with 6'6" MH rod. So everything that I fish, is on the same line. I mostly fish spinnerbaits, crankbaits and top waters with a walk the dog action. With the occasional T-rigged worm threw in every now and then. For a while now, I have been fishing with 10lb Vanish gold. But know there are better lines to suit my needs out there. Any advice is appreciated! J_Young Quote
Fish Man Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 first off welcome to bassresource.com,this is a great place o learn and meet new people.....but to answer your question id have to say sufix seige, i use it in 8 pound test, its very durable and strong,it also has near 0 memory and in my experiances have never has linebreak unless it was right at the knot Quote
NEBassMan Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft Super Strong, Super Manageable. Jason Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 20, 2007 Super User Posted June 20, 2007 Welcome aboard! Whenever you ask what is the "best" of anything on this or any other Forum, your responses are really "favorites." Some are better than others or have different attributes that make them "special." But remember this: There is no "best" just favorite equipment. My recommendation is Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. #6 (11.9 lb test) for spinning tackle #12 (19.5) for baitcasting gear Quote
rvrnr64 Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 If that's a spinning reel didn't you get an extra spool? If so I'd put Yo-Zuri soft hybrid on one and Power Pro 4/15 or 6/20 on the other. Just mke sure you use backing for the braid Quote
Shadcranker Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I like P-Line CXX Green in 15 lb. use it for 90% of my baitcast applications. It's a bit stiff (use line conditioner), but it's exceptionally stong and long lasting. Quote
J_Young Posted June 20, 2007 Author Posted June 20, 2007 Hey fellas, thanks for the quick replies! I'll take note of the line recommendations and check on them. Since someone asked, my reel is a baitcaster. But, I hope that soon I will be able to pick up a Plfueger spinning reel also. And thanks for the warm welcome too! I signed up here earlier in the year, then my wife and I had a baby boy(1st baby) soon after. So my internet time has been cut down drastically because of the new edition. Hes a hand full! Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted June 20, 2007 Super User Posted June 20, 2007 Welcome!!! About the line.....What RW said. Good stuff. Quote
skillet Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Congratulations on your baby and WELCOME to the forums!! Guess I'm an old stuck in the mud :-[still use mono, regular Stren, 12# on baitcaster and 8 & 10# on spinning... As Ever, skillet Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Hey welocme to the forum. I have pretty much the same set up , except it's a Pfl;ueger Trion Baitcaster I use Cabela's Pro Line Mono, Clear/flor blue , 12 lb test. I have had great sucess with this line,. Quote

My recommendation is Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. #6 (11.9 lb test) for spinning tackle #12 (19.5) for baitcasting gear RW has been very consistent with this "favorite". I decided to try his suggestion for 2007 and have been very happy with it.......I'm converted! Quote
Guest avid Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Line is like most other things related to fishing. There is no best line for all situations There are excellent choices but I wouldn't use the best braid in crystal clear water, or the finest flouocarbon on a balsa topwater. My "all around" line is 14 test berkely big game. Quote
J_Young Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 Thanks skillet!! Well I ended up getting a 600yd spool of Yo-Zuri. I was telling my wife about this line before she went to Wal-Mart, she called me and told me that they had what I wanted. I told her to pick me up a spool and she gets back, and its #15 and not ultra soft :-/ Looks like I am going to have to take it back, and hopefully exchange it for #12 ultra soft. I guess thats what I get for sending her into the fishing section where she has no idea what shes looking at lol. Thanks for all of the replies!! Quote
surfer Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 I heard Cabelas has a monopoly on the Ultra Soft? Quote
phase5supply Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Sufix Siege is my favorite all around, but I fish it the least. If I had only 1 setup it would be on it. Quote
Guest SkyChimp Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I've tried all sorts of mono, but I keep coming back to Berkley XT. Sufix Seige was my least favorite. For me, it was like having a Slinky on my reel. I've been using Berkley Maxx for awhile now and like it a lot - so far. Quote
rebelbasspro Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Izorline monofiliament. 15lb for topwaters. 12lb for cranks and spinners. Quote
Tpayneful Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 For crankbaits, spinnerbaits and topwater I use 14lb clear Stren original on a baitcaster. Jig / Worm rod I use 15# P-Line Flourocarbon on a baitcaster. I have 8lb clear Stren original on my spinning reels. I fish clear water and absolutely love the Flourocarbon! A few weeks ago I casted a jig into 10' of water, two seconds into the fall I felt a "tick" on the line and set the hook. It was a nice 2lber. I feel alot more and my hooksets are way better too! Of course I still use mono for moving baits. I can understand the lack of time because I have a 4 and 6 year old. I really didn't have time to fish until the youngest was 2 years old. I started taking them on the boat with me when they were 2. My 6 year old does catch bass now but the 4 year old just wants to play which is fine too. I end up taking the oldest one with me a lot. If either one wants to go home I can drop them off close to my house because we live only a block from the water. I made it a point to build my house in a lake community! Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 23, 2007 Super User Posted June 23, 2007 Looking at all the answers, it would appear that your question was asking for the best "monofilament" line. Anyway, if you're asking for our favorite "All-Around" line, mine is "PowerPro" (braided polyethylene), hands-down. Roger Quote
Pintail55 Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 One reel on line WOW. I love my fluro, braid and mono but if I were to make one suggestion I would say you can't go wrong with triline xl. I would say fluoro but Its not the best choice for top-water, so I would stick with a strong mono. Good luck. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted June 24, 2007 Super User Posted June 24, 2007 For over twenty years I've been using Trilene XL. I've tried other lines over the years, but always go back to XL. Falcon Quote
telecaster Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I switched from CXX to Evolution this year and really like it its much looser and seems just as strong. I,ve been meaning to give the Yozuri a try but I never see it around here. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 24, 2007 Super User Posted June 24, 2007 i would say 14 lb cajun red cast or if you want flouro i would say 15 lb seguar invizx. Quote
