Big-Bass Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Who makes the Gander Mountain brand rods? I was at my local Gander and noticed a really nice casting rod and would like to know the blank origin. The rod is their top of the line casting model...called Titanium Series or something like that. The rod has a Fuji soft touch ECS reel seat and Fuji SiC guides. It retails for $150 and did notice that it said "Made in China." It really felt alot like a Crucial in the same power and action. Anyone know about this rod or own this rod and can comment on origin, quality, etc. Thanks in advance for any responses. Quote
Fish Man Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 used to be made by st croix but know all the guys i ask in there say that they dont know and guess that it is made by a company that just mkes rods for companies like bass pro, and cabelas without their name on them.dont buy one for 150 i have one that cost about 60 and it is AWSOME,for 150 you might as well got for a st croix avid Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 As a rod builder... Just some clarification here. St.Croix® doesn't build house brand rods for anyone. There are a few big factories in china for building what are known as re-brand rods. The big Box company tells them what they want built spec wise, and these factories produce them, then they are shipped to the US. Even St.Croix's lowest end rods the Triumph series are imported from china. They are St.Croix specs but built overseas to keep cost down. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!! Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 21, 2007 Super User Posted June 21, 2007 Since Cabela's owns Gander Mt. probably the same folks that make Cabela rods. Quote

Not sure where you got that misinformation from, but it's far from the truth. Gander is it's own company expanded through the take over of Burger brothers and the restructuring/mergering of Holiday sporting goods. The parent company is Holiday, the same Holiday that has a large chain of gas stations in the northwest/uppermidwest. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 23, 2007 Super User Posted June 23, 2007 I guess I stand corrected then. I was told that by a Gander Mountain employee when I asked why I stopped getting my catalogs. He said they went belly up and Cabela's bought them. Since he was employed there I took his word for knowing who his employer was. Quote
Fish Man Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 to the best of my knowledge the only thing cabelas baught out was the catalog but nothing else if that makes sense Quote

Yes, in 1996 Cabela's bought the catalog portion of Gander, as an attempt on Ganders part, to raise cash in order to "stay afloat". It didn't work. In 1997 they started to sell out to Holiday. As far as I know, nothing has changed and Holiday still owns Gander. So the salesman was right, but it was only the catalog. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 24, 2007 Super User Posted June 24, 2007 That's a good thing cause I am not a Cabela's fan and I do kind of like Gander Mountain, too bad the closest one is over 200 miles away. Quote
