Super User David P Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 about 4 inches starting from the tip down, SNAPPED while setting the hook on a below 5lb bass. Not sure if I set the hook too hard, or what, but I don't understand?!!?!? I just got this rod on Monday, fished it today, had a blast, and with 30 minutes left in the trip, SNAP. How is BPS with returning rods, and customer service? anything I can do to hurry the process or get extra goodies out of it? I'm really pist. I had a big fishing weekend planned, now I have to use my only other garbage rod/reel. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 The only BPS rods I ever had break were Graphite Gold rods waaay back in the day. Back in that day it was not uncommon for Graphite rods to snap on hooksets. BPS exchanged them no problem. If you have your receipt I'm sure they'll give you another one. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 If you live near one you can take the old one in and they will replace it NQA. I loaned a guy one of my rpds that was 7 years old. He broke it for me. I told him to take the 2 pieces to BPS and buy me another one just like it. They gave that lucky dog one and didn't charge him anything. You can't beat that for customer service. Quote
deadeye32. Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I had a BPS extreme break this spring and took it back to the clarksville store. They went back and got me a brand new one and said have a good day. Great service and I didnt even have my reciept. Quote

Super User David P Posted June 22, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2007 Hey guys, I spoke to them this morning. I re-ordered the rod so that I will get it early next week.. Then I am sending my rod back today and they will just refund the price I paid for the new one. That way I don't have to wait for 3 weeks for me to ship them my rod. California has no BPS Stores so unfortunately I can't go to the store, I sure wish they had one! They were great! Thanks again guys. Quote
flyphisher # Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 It happens. I would have bought something like it local for this weekend. Then sent the old one back for a refund. few years ago I bought one of the mid-range bps fly rods, over a $100. 5 or 6 casts into the trip the thing snapped mid-way down the 1 section casting a small fly. It was a 9ft 6 or 7 wt rod. I took it back and got my money back. They didnt have another one like it. Unless its a house brand, It depends on who you talk to taking stuff back to the store. Yestersay I was BPS in macon to return a reel. 18 yr old kid from fishing comes to exchange counter and says they dont sell them, never have, take it back to Savannah store where it came from or pay to get it fixed and walks off....I knew they had them a xmas, and the store had only been open for 6 months. Well the manager walks up and i tell her what the problem is. 10 minutes later I have a gift card for the full amount. Yet the rod I also had to return that I bought right after XMas at the Macon bps I am stuck with....they couldnt find any record of ever having carried them, sold them,etc...I asked if i could bring it back with the reciept and they didnt know if that would help either since nothing was in computer.... : :'( Quote
Tpayneful Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 BPS customer service is really good. I had one rod broken by USPS before I got it and BPS replaced it using the return merchandise sticker. Nothing unusual about that but I had an even better experience in February. My wife gave me an Extreme 370 tackle bag. On the first day of my first fishing trip of the year in Florida a zipper for one of the pockets completely breaks off! When I got home I sent them an email and explained everything. I didn't have a receipt either. They looked up the purchase and exchanged the bag! It will only get better when the new BPS is built 20 miles away north of Richmond, VA! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted June 23, 2007 Super User Posted June 23, 2007 Cali is getting a BPS in Rancho Cucamonga on the 19th of July. I know you guys on the west coast can't wait. Quote
island bassin Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 i had the same problem last February. They have replaced the rod and pay for both return shipping cost from Cyprus and shipping cost for the replacement to be sent back to me. Sorry my friend but forget the free goodies. Quote
