G3 Fan Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Welcome to the board. I have some Quantums with the TiMag bail system, I haven't had any problems with mine. I know what you are talking about with line not seating on the roller though, it can be annoying. Do you close the bail by hand after you cast? When I cast I stop the line with my index finger when the lure hits the water then close the bail with my other hand which also allows me to make sure the line is on the roller and I check to make sure I don't have any loops etc. I think the magnetic bail system might not have as much resistance as a spring system and opens easier. On my Kinetic if the line isn't on the roller I can feel it when I start the retrieve, it has only happened to me a few times when I get in a big hurry to make a follow up cast. You said you were on your second one, did you send it to Quantum or did you return the first one to the store? If I am not mistaken the TiMag bail system is guaranteed for life if you bought it new and registered it they have a 48hr turn around. http://www.quantumfishing.com/custsvc/warranty.html My brother in law is new to fishing and I can't get him in the habbit of closing the bail by hand and checking the line before he retrieves. It seems like everytime we go out he'll end up with a giant birds nest that takes half of his line off the spool at one time. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Just to clarify.... Quantum products are warranted for a period of one (1) year from date of original retail purchase against defects in workmanship and/or materials. Purchaser should return defective products postage prepaid, insured with proof of purchase direct to Quantum at 6105 E. Apache, Tulsa, OK 74115. Quantum will repair or replace products at its option and return direct to purchaser. This warranty does not cover Quantum products damaged due to abuse, misuse, normal wear, or excessive wear caused by neglect of cleaning and lubrication required or general service requirements due to owner's failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance. The bail system isn't a separate product it is part of the reel as a whole. Meaning the one year warranty is applied to the reel as a whole. In the reels write up it reads: The revolutionary TiMAG III bail system combines the indestructibility of a titanium bail wire with the industry's only magnetic bail trip to give the angler a lifetime of trouble-free performance. This does not imply that the TiMAG III system is warrentied for life... TOYOTAGUY2006, IM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF ANYBODY ELSE IS HAVING ANY PROBLEMS WITH THERE OUANTUM REELS IVE BEEN THROUGHT 2 NOW THAT HAS HAD BAIL PROBLEMS AND I DONT UNDERSTAND IT NOW IVE WENT TO THE PTI30 ENERGY AND HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HOOKSETTS WHEN I GO TO SET THE HOOK THE BAIL OPENS THE LINE DOESNT SLIDE ALL THE WAY IN THE BEARING SO WHEN I SET THE HOOK IT OPENS THE BAIL AND IS QUIET FUSTRATING EXPECIALLY IF ITS A BIG FISH ANYONE PLEASE HELP WITH THISThe E20PTi-A handles 140 yds. / 6 lb. test, and, the E30PTi-A handles 160 yds. / 8 lb. test. Are you using this size line, and what size lures are you throwing if you do? The reason why I ask is, that there might not be enough weight on the line when you turn the crank to close the bail, to get the line set into the line roller, and your line is staying out far enough onto the bail wire to cause enough pressure to pop open the bail. If the line isn't sitting directly in the line roller, the bail even if it were the older spring action bail would pop open. This is a result of letting the auto closer on the reel do the work instead of like G3 stated, closeing the bail by hand and checking for the position of the line in the line roller. I have serviced a ton of these reels and they are a fine spinning reel. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 20, 2007 Super User Posted June 20, 2007 I have two Pti 20 and have never had a problem with either of them. So far they have been perfect. I think ReelMech, as usual, has some solid advice. I hope you find one that works out for you. Quote
