fish-fighting-illini Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hey Dodgeguy I'm surprised that you didn't recommend the Pflueger President! Was it too low on the price scale? If it would work for Avid then he'd have a solid reel and could buy 2 to have easier lure options. What price range do you think the Supreme is going to end up in? Avid I recently bought a Pflueger Medalist it it is a very sweet reel for $60. I should have spent the extra $20 for the President to get the magnesium frame. My Medalist has performed well but I have not had it long enough to recommend personaly. Also keep in mind that if you have a particular service person or co that you use; Pfluegers are proprietary and not serviable by just anyone. Quote
paparock Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hey Avid, I don't think you can go too wrong with the upper end of Shimano, Daiwa, or the Quantum Energy PTi-A. I have handled the Stella FB and it is awesome as it should be for that price. I have a Daiwa Certate, which is the closest I have to the Stella as far as smoothness and costs a lot less. My Daiwa Luvias, is probably the best performer for the price paid which was less than my Shimano Sustain was but I like the Luvias better. Using your criteria and knowing a little of your tastes as you love your Daiwa TD-Z I would say try a Stella FB 2500 and then try the Daiwa Certate 2500 R-Custom. Right now, you can get some steals on the Certate from GrinPeche.com. It is a Japanese site that sells both the Stella and Certate at cheap prices direct. While the Stella is for sue the standard all others are measured by here is why I have been interested in the Certate 2500 R-Custom. 2500 R-Custom: the mule of gear box of 3000 and rotor of 2500. The R-custom also receives machine-cut handle. The combination offers the more gear efficiency and components durability to 2500 reel, making it the most powerful 2500 reel in market. Of course, this is Daiwa describing their reel but I do like the 2500 spool on the 3000-gear box and the machine cut handle, which is more similar to the Stella's than the factory Daiwa. Right now on Ebay the Stella 2500 FB is going for around $399 Sustain2500---------------------------$210 Stradic 2500---------------------------$120 Stradic MG --$148 Certate 2500 R-Custom--------------$300 to $339 Luvias 2500----------------------------$195 to 200 Quantum Energy PTi-A 20 or 30----$ 120 I have at present a Sustain, Certate, Luvias, Energy PTi-A and all are serving great. However, it is dependent on your personal tastes and how you plan to use it. I like the Energy PTi-A but it is a little heavy if you plan to cast it all day but it is as solid as a tank. If you are looking for a spinning reel that is light, smooth, and the quality of a TD-Z I would concentrate on the Stella and the Certate then pick the one that feels best to you. That is just my 2 cents. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2007 Super User Posted June 13, 2007 Welcome aboard! I have done some business with Reed's Family Outdoor Outfitters, they are a quality company. Those are some nice prices on great reels. No tax, free shipping, a reel bag and an in-house discount. Looks like a deal to me! BTW Shadrac, You can start a new thread on any topic, anytime. Old threads are fine, but not necessary. Quote
SneakySnook Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Go with the daiwa sol. Very smooth and sealed drag system. I have a daiwa tierra and it's a great reel if you want to go a little cheaper. Quote
tennsopher Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Avid, you said the couple hundred dollar range. With that in mind,I would opt for the Daiwa sol or Shimano twinpower. Both are excellent in form and function.I fish a twinpower most of the time and I have three stradics and a PTi30.The twinpower blows them away.
