What do you guys think of invisible line like Berkley Vanish? I currently use 12 lb Spiderwire EZ mono and love it. Though I've noticed I get more hits when I'm using the 15 lb clear white shakesphere line. I am a little worried the blue might be spooking the fish, so I've considered switching to the Berkley Vanish. Considering a spool a 12 lb test is almost 20$ I'd like to know what you guys think about it before I buy it.

Thank You,

-Taylor

I personally think Vanish is the worst flour line out there.  I hated it.  I really like Seaguar Invisix line though.  Has low memory and great knot strenght.

Good line.  If you're paying more than $11 for a 250 yd. spool of Vanish, you're paying too much.

The last few spools of Vanish that I have bought have been great.....a couple of years ago there was a period of time that it was the worst line you could buy, then Berkley worked out the problems and its back in the game.

Burn me once, shame on you.

Burn me twice, shame on me.

There are better options than Vanish.

I love flurocarbon lines but I will not use vanish.  Vanish is really easy to break and is not very abrasion resistant.  Use Gamma flurocarbon.  Best flurocarbon I have ever used and it is worth its price tag. I also like Seaguar Invisix.

I would rather stick to something else. I've used it on a baitcasting reel and i spent more time fixing my backlashes then fishing. I had to respool to mono because i had no other flouro on me. The best flouro that has worked for me was P-Line Flourocarbon, Halo, and Gamma (expensive though). I would just stay away from vanish.

What does a line have to do with backlashing?

If I blamed the line for backlash, I would be sitting at home as they've all backlashed at one time or another.

That must be a confidence thing or maybe the thicker line is altering the presentation of your bait.  The blue fluorescence is simply an aid in line watching above the water and disappears under the surface.

Stiffer=More backlashes

I've never found that to be the case.  I use 25 lb. Big Game on a couple of reels and I haven't found them to be any more prone to backlash.

Now that you mention it, I have used 25 lb Big Game as well and found it to be better than average with regard to backlashes.  I also have found that all the fluoro I throw tends to loosen up on the spool a lot and I frequently have to strip some off and tighten it to prevent problems.  So what's up?

All I know is that I've not had any problems with Vanish over the last year in 12 and 17 lb.  I don't like the price, but I do love the line.  If it weren't so expensive (and I didn't have 3000 yards of Hybrid on the shelf), I would use Vanish on pretty much everything.

Like I said, if I blamed line for backlashes, I would be sitting at home.  If you're fishing casting gear, backlashes are just something you have to deal with.  If anything, line plays a very small part in a backlash.  It has more to do with reel setup and casting technique.

If I backlash, it is usually due to trying to get that extra few yards on a long cast.  Or screwing up my arm motion on a pitch.

Can't believe Vanish is still on the market.    It should have Vanished by now.    They might have worked the kinks out, but how do you tell you have a fresher spool??????????????

Lost too many fish trying it out.

hello!!!!once again, vanish was reformulated and is not the same line most of you hate.i tried it when i was looking for a flouro to use and it really wasn't bad.it was far better than the old formula which was terrible.

hahaha!  I found this thread because I'm in the process of stripping the Vanish off all my reels and I was going to see what folks were saying about different brands of braided lines - I'm going to put braid on one of reels that I use mostly for Carolina rigged soft baits.

Vanish, for me, has been hideous!  It breaks very easily.  You need to re-tie about every 5th cast if you're fishing for anything bigger than bream.  It abrades very quickly and easily.  It really does backlash worse than any line I've ever fished and the memory - OMG!  This Vanish was purchased about 2 months ago and spooled on.  When I was pulling it off a reel just now, it looked like line that had been on for about 2 years!  It was the curliest junk I'd ever seen.

Now, I'm not a Berkley hater by any means - I just re-spooled one reel with Trilene XL.   Trilene may not be the very best out there but it's very reliable, tests out to what it says on the box for strength, and fishes just plain good.

I'm also using Suffix Elite - I really like it a lot so far.

Just my $0.02

I recently bought some 10lb Vanish "Gold" And I really like it.  It casts well and has a very sensitive feel to me.  I've had some trouble with backlash in the wind, but it's more me than the line.  I also soaked mine in hot water to help reduce memory and it seemed to work.  Check out E-Bay for some good deals.  Whatever you choose, good luck.

I couldnt agree more Cephkiller I had Berkley Vanish 17lb on my reel and it would continually backlash and loosen up off the spool. I have been fishing PLine CXXXtra Strong line, I went back to that after the Vanish mishaps. I never really noticed a big difference in bites from the PLine to the Vanish either. So goes my search for another Fluro or I will just stick with the PLine.

i've never used it and maybe they've improved it, but i've witnessed a buddy firsthand snap his line no less that 5 times on one 3 hour fishing trip.  i could barely contain my laughter.
