deep-cranker Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Does any body have a favorite brand of wooden cranks? Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Bagley is my favorite. They rake the fish in for me, and at the same time, are collectible. They are a little prices, from 6-11 bucks apiece. There are many custom balsa baits that are even pricier, but for me, nothing beats a Bagley. Rapala is my second fav, and more attainable than bagley baits. The DT series is awesome, and the original countdown minnow is a go to bait. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 Rapala's are wooden? Quote
deep-cranker Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 Rapala makes both plastic and wooden baits. So far my favorites are bagley and lee sisson Quote
basspro48 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Bagley and lee sisson produce for me year round, but my favorite crank for winter fishing is the original wooden rapala shadrap. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 Another vote for the original Shad Rap. They just flat-out put fish in the boat. Falcon Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 www.smitybait.com, check this guy out , he makes some great custom wooden cranks. He mainly deals in muskie lure but does have a few bass lures that I have had alot of luck on Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 original floating rapala Quote
BASS fisherman Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I like a quality custom made wooden crank over mass produced wooden cranks any day. Whittler on this site makes some of the best cranks I have ever used. My personal favorite is the model 11 which isn't listed on his site. I call it the "peanut" crank because it resembles the shape of a crooked peanut. I have caught more fish on the model 11 than probably all my other cranks combined. http://jm-woodcraft.cabanova.com/ Quote
CJ Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Rapala and Bagley's are some common favorites.Whittler makes some great custom lures as well.Check out his link in the above post!Wally G also makes some great custom crankbaits.Check em' out www.wallygbaits.com Quote
Guest avid Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Bagleys are good for off the shelf. but http://www.carolinachip.com/Carolina_Chips.htm are real works of art and great fish catchers. Quote
Shadrac Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 This is a little off topic...but I have always wondered why none of these guys don't make a knock off of the top water baits by Sisson and Bagley- the rat fink was a great top water bass bait- and they get about $30 each on eBay if anyone knows of someone who makes a a Rat Fink could you post it? thanks Shadrac Quote
TournyFish001 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I like the reaction innovations method crank- Quote
Stringjam Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I find myself moving away from wooden baits more and more in favor of well designed plastic baits - I get tired of wooden bait maintenance, and watching $20 plugs crack and split, but there are still some wooden cranks that I haven't found replacements for... Namely the Poe's 400, 400 Plus designs (my favorite being the Poe's Competition Cedars 4400 - a 400 Plus design). These are still my most productive, and in my opinion, most perfectly designed deep crankbaits in life (for my personal preferences, anyway). The 4500 LR is also a design that is, IMO, unmatched for a true 20' diving plug. Another wooden bait that I really dig is the Lee Sisson Slim Willie, in both the diving and shallow versions: Quote
bubbler Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 rapalas are good. i use these cranks in shallow water the most bcause they are boyant and can be floaqted over cover Quote
deep-cranker Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 I wonder if poe's is going to come out any shallow Competition Cedars? Quote
Stringjam Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I wonder if poe's has a shallow compition ceder crank? Not that I know of.......I've seen some square-billed Poe's from way back, though.......very rarely one will pop up on Ebay every now and then. It looks like they used the 200 body and stuck a square lip in it. Quote
