basschick Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I'd really like to know about the use specifically of the Berkley rods and reels. Are consumers pleased with these products? What are your likes, dislikes, or suggestions? Thanks for all of the responses, I am interested in what the consumers have to say. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2007 Super User Posted June 13, 2007 I fish a Fenwick Techna AV (AVS70MM). I think it is a fine rod, but it should be returned to the pricing point it has been at for years ($160). Specifically, it compares well with the St. Croix Avid series and maybe some other +/-$150 rods, not $210. (When the Techna AV series was introduced it was priced at $210 but discounted to $160. It appeared they were initially trying to match this rod against the G.Loomis IMX series, but at a slight price concession. Later and up until this year, the full retail price was set around $160.) Super User David P Posted June 14, 2007 Super User Posted June 14, 2007 I had ONE berkeley rod at the start of spring. First fish I set the hook on, the top cork piece of the handle cracked and slid off.. Didn't buy another. Maybe I just had a bad experience. Quote
Hot Rod Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 My fav spinning rod for years was a "Limited Edition" Berkley rod that I paid about $45 for in the mid 90's. Too bad it was discontinued. :-[ I liked it better than some rods I've had that cost twice as much. It was so light and sensitive. Though the cork was the rod's weekness. It was thin and didn't hold up well. One of the rods of several I bought to try to replace it was a Fenwick Eagle GT. It is quickly becoming my fav spinning rod and I'll probably pick up a couple more of them in the future. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted June 14, 2007 Super User Posted June 14, 2007 For a super tight budget, the Berkley Cherrywood rod is not a bad deal at all. They are less than $20 and are sensitive enough to drop shot with. I have a lightning rod I bought on clearance for $9.99 but never got around to trying it out after I bought a Shimano Crucial MH for $59.00. The Crucial filled that nitch. ;D So yes, I am pleased with the cherrywood especially for its price. Quote

Berkley is one of them, Fenwick is another. http://www.purefishing.com/menu.cfm?CFID=2550768&CFTOKEN=dc2fb79702d12c84-29E55247-B638-1C85-BA16B20CDAFC7525 Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 14, 2007 Super User Posted June 14, 2007 sounds like a marketing persons inquiry. (as does the poll in tackle) If you search on each specific product you want info on, you'll probably have more reading than you care for! To stay on topic, I think the Berkley rods are good values in each of their respective price points. I'm also a diehard XT user. Quote

What are your likes, dislikes, or suggestions? Thanks for all of the responses, I am interested in what the consumers have to say. I am interested in free Berkley equipment. My suggestion would be for you to send me some as soon as possible. Seriously, I dont have much experience with Berkley rods except for the old Cherrywood I used to fish for trout. I will always accept free items though... Wayne Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Dont really have experience with them. I've sold some of them in retail but honestly pretty much the same answer as the Tackle. Dont use them. I'm a diehard loomis guy. I'm sure others will agree with that. Reels. Dont think I've ever seen one except pictures. Quote

If in fact you are an employee of Berrkley, you'll get a lot more feedback and better feedback by saying so than just "inquiring" about Berkley products in general. People would see it as an opportunity contribute to something meaningful... just promise me one thing- you won't change XT!! ...lol Quote

Not sure on Glenns rules on this since its a major manufacturer but it would be cool to see a thing like you are talking about. Or a post of how could we improve or what would you like to see. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Bass Chick I really like my Berkley rods that I have. I think for the price range they are affordable and get the job done. I have 2 lightning spinning's in in ML andhave a lot of fun with them on bass up to 4 lbs. I have a Cherrywood casting that gets the job done. I don't own and have not used higher end rods of any brand so my view is maybe skewed. To borrow RW's pure fishing link ( which I didn't know ). Abu's I've had lousy experience with a spinning and a spincast. They were both very low end and a long time ago so maybe you get what you pay for. Several people have said that the older Abu's round BC's were very good. A lot of people have been raving about the new Revo's on this forum. The Mitchell I own is a newer 308 spinning and you can keep them especialy at their price point. The first one I owned failed in 1 month (best I remember), the replacement under warranty failed very quick, the 2nd replacement got noisy fast but I was able to fix it myself. If a Pflueger Pres is a $59 reel and a Shimano Symmetre a $79 reel this Mitchell is a $29 max high end Zebco Quote
