Trevor in Burke Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I'd like to get my dad a nice tackle bag (not box) for POND HOPPING and for bringing on the occasional boat trip so nothing to bulky or big, something on the small side but that you can carry ten or so hard baits and a nice assortment of plastics and hooks etc. His back pack is a clustered disaster, links and pictures are very much appreciated as well as any input! thanks alot! Super User RoLo Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 Plano Magnum Double-Sided Box (get him a couple) When you get fed up hauling that immense, heavy tackle box to every water, the Plano Magnums are a breath of fresh air. I take one or more small Plano Magnums to suit the outing. I labeled each double-sided magnum as per special-purpose, for instance, Shore Fishing, "Pike Fishing", "Shiner-Fishing", Redfish/Seatrout and so on. One double-sided magnum will easily accomodate a dozen lure options, along with a selection of hooks, sinkers, scissors, etc. I still have the big tackle boxes too, but they just serve as back-up warehouses for the Plano Magnums. rdneckhntr Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Wal mart has 2 sizes of the OCHEECHOOBEE FATS bags , less than 40 dollars and comes with 5 plastic boxes They serve me well! IMO those are the best bags for the money. The big one is like $40 and it comes with 8 3700 boxes with plenty of pockets....me and a guy i know have them. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 Cabelas Advanced Angler series. The best tackle bags money can buy. The Super Magnum is although you need to buy a forklift in order to move it. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Thats also a great bag Burley, my friend Gene has one and it is pretty cool. 8-) Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 That bag is huge burley.... You should try lifting it. My wife says it needs wheels. ;D Quote
Trevor in Burke Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 if it's hard to move then it's no good for pond fishing, i need something that holds a good amount that you can throw over the shoulder and move about ponds with ease, any suggestions? links or pics please! thanks guys! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 12, 2007 Super User Posted June 12, 2007 Cabelas Advanced Anglers Pro Series Bags There are four different sizes. Small, large, magnum, and super magnum. Quote
moloch16 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I like the Plano Tackle Systems. In fact I just received one as an early Father's day gift 8-) Quote
moloch16 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Couldn't remember which one I got but it's the 3372 SoftSider This bag is a very manageable size and comes with a shoulder strap. I would say it is ideal for pond fishing and the occasional boat trip. The removable storage boxes make it easy to swap out baits depending on the type of fishing you plan to do that day. Quote
fishindad Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Trev, I would suggest one of the angler's backpacks for what you want/need. They will be MUCH easier to tote around and they also allow space to carry lunch and a rain jacket, rod tube, etc. I've used a backpack on my buddy's boat when I want to carry more than just tackle boxes and it works great. I think Cabela's sells one, it's not cheap but I am sure your dad would love it. Otherwise, places like REI or LL Bean sell fanny-type packs which will hold a couple of smaller tackle boxes plus misc. gear. Or some of the flyfishing shops will have a better selection since those guys are usually on foot patrol, pond-hopping. Jim Quote
xxmurrxx Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 http://www.exploreproducts.com/flambeau-kwikdraw-4500st-fishing-tacklebox.htm Holds 3 larger cases, and 2 smaller ones Pretty compact, the cases that come with it are not the best but it does not really matter they will still hold stuff. Quote
Trevor in Burke Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 thanks alot guys! Burley I really like the Cabellas one and the Plano, I think the Large size should suffice. Thanks alot! I currently use the plano waste bag and it works great if anyone is wondering, they also have one with a cup holder on it. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Burley I think that bag needs its own zip code. Does your boat even plane with that bag in it? I cant say much because my bag holds about 8 boxes plus all the ones in a wally mart bag. Thats a high class bag. Wally mart bags are economical though. It rips easy but cheap LOL. BPS bags are more durable but not as abundant in my house. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 13, 2007 Super User Posted June 13, 2007 Burley I think that bag needs its own zip code. Does your boat even plane with that bag in it? I haven't had it out in my boat on any lake on which I can use my OB. It does help balance my buddy's Stratos when we're in it (I'm lighter than him). ;D I've got almost every little bit of tackle I own in that bag (save for the catfish and trout gear) and it still has room for more. Obviously weight is more than a small factor. I need to weigh the bag, but I would estimate it's weight at around 60 lbs. I've went through 5 different bags in the last year and the Cabela's bags are bar none the best I've used. They put the BPS bags to shame in quality and functionality. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2007 Super User Posted June 13, 2007 I recently bought this one on sale: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44423_100011010_100000000_100011000_100-11-10 Quote
