i read an article about using these on a dropshot (or a wiggle rig if youve got it!) in north american fisherman to catch bass from their beds. its sposed to imitate a bluegill and the way they said to fish it was to get it on the edge of the bed and give it a little slack so it slides in the bed, then tighten up a little so it pops back up and repeat that to look like a gill stealing eggs. what do you all think?

It will work.  I've used streamer flies on dropshots and killed smallies on the beds, but then again, you could drop just about anything on a smallmouth bed and get bit.  But seriously, I've used flies on dropshots through the ice and have had good results.  There is something to be said about the way a fly softly quivers in the water at the slightest twitch....something plastics just can't do.

Try a bunny strip ( rabbit fur leech imitation ), on either a drop shot or split shot rig. Once it gets soaked, you can cast a bigger one with a spinning rod with no added weight, for shallow water. It's more fun with a fly rod, but the bunny strip is one of the few flies you can cast with a spinning rod. Rabbit fur looks more alive in water than anything else. Except for something that's actually alive, that is. One of my "secret" baits for tough times.

Cheers,
