FatBoy Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I typically use a medium power rod. I know lots of guys go with a MH or heavy for flipping, frogging, etc. Is there a situation or type of lure when a ML or light power is the right choice? Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 small bass, crappie, white bass, rainbow trout... etc. I built a ML St.Croix casting blank as a spinning rod and love it for finesse worms and small to med crank/ minnow baits and ultra clearwater t-rigs with 10lb or less line. A med or ML, X-fast is pretty typical for dropshot also. To each, his own... but down here and my style rarely gets anything below a MH but for other species or really clear water, I break out the above mentioned rod. Quote
NEBassMan Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I use my ML/F spinning rod for dropshot, shakey head, pretty much all types of finess fishing. I also throw rapala originals with it, and sometimes top water poppers, just cause it's fun 8-). Jason Quote
RockvilleMDAngler Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I use a 7' ML St. Croix Avid for drop shotting and some shakey head fishing. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 Stunted bass, pickerel, sauger, crappie, white bass, trout and large sunfish (e.g. redears) Roger Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 I use my 7' Powell ML for all kinds of stuff: poppers, dart heads, light shakey, and rip baits. But when it comes to Drop Shotting, it is my favorite rod! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 Mine is a St. Croix Avid AVS66MLF. This equipment is a lot of fun to fish and I HIGHLY recommend it for light lures and smaller fish. This is my white bass, small trout, crappie and "sometimes bass" rig. Although I don't consider this the right rod for bigger bass, I have caught 5 lb+ smallmouth on this gear. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted June 11, 2007 Super User Posted June 11, 2007 I use a Johnny Morris reel on a BPS Pro Finesse rod; 6'9" ML, fast action baitcasting rod for flukes, jigworms, lightly weighted tubes, grub/jig combos and the smaller cranks. Started with 10lb test XL, then went to 8. I get more bites with the lighter line. Not the preferred choice for heavy cover, but a blast to fish with. A two pounder on this rig is like a 5 on a MH rig. I don't carry all my rigs around all the time, but this one is with me most of the time. Cheers, GK Quote
FatBoy Posted June 11, 2007 Author Posted June 11, 2007 Thanks for all the info. Gives me some confidence to use my ML rod for bass. Especially for the finesse stuff. Quote
Captain Cali Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Dropshot for sure. 3 pounders feel like hawgs! 8-) Quote
