Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Hey Fellas: Having finally made the switch from Spinning to Baitcasting i have found a change of heart when it comes to Pflueger reels. I still think the Pflueger President Reel is the best valued and favorite spinning reel. I still have one I use mostly for Rapalas. I finally got my Trion Baitcasting Reell and I like it, but the BPS Extreme and Pro Qualifier i have are better valued and I like the BPS reels better. In the pricing point I can afford I can see no better reel and they offer a lot of different reels from low to fast gear ratios and many different applications. They also service and stick by their reels. So Im jumping ship here from Plueger to BPS as far as baitcasting goes. Quote
Guest Bountiful_Waters Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I hope you have good luck with the BPS. I bought my wife a BPS Rick Clunn about 3 years ago and it was fine until she set the hook on a 9lb fish. We heard a pop and parts rattling around on the inside (she did land it). Took it to a service person and they said they have had numerous problems with the Rick Clunn. I know they have a wide range of reels and this is a one time issue, but for me, I have a bad taste in my mouth about that. Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Hey DG not dissing Pflueger or anything i just seem to be liking my BPS reels a little better than i thought Pflueger are still among the best reels. If I can afford a Summit someday i may change this tune. I try to be honest and open minded. I have taken to buying quality stuff at the best prices i can find. Quote
Cephkiller Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 DANG! I thought you'd joined the Shimano posse when I read the thread title. One step at a time, I guess. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 You are giving up Pflueger? Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Not the Spinning reels just the Bait Casters : Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 Back in the olden days, I purchased one of BPS's first badged LP reels in the mid 80's. It was made by Quick, I felt assured it would probably be a good reel. The first reel was bad out of the box, BPS sent another. I failed on the first trip. I said the heck with it and spent $25 extra dollars and bought a 2nd Garcia Ultra Mag XL plus ($75, big bucks in those days for a reel) I swore off BPS reels for good even though I still had many of their rods which I still think are good for the $$. The past few years I've re-explored BPS reels. I've had no problems with them and for the money, can't be beat. Thinking about the baitcasting marketplace, it seems kinda silly to me to purchase a very expensive reel ($200 +) with the mindset and justification that this is going to be a reel I'll have for many years to come. Technology comes and goes. Todays uber expensive reel will cost half that much in the future when the technology becomes cheaper to produce, by then something better will come along to replace it. I can see a typical BPS reel lasting at least 5 years, by that 5th year, something better will come along. With you're front end investment so low, it's easier and cheaper to replace a lower end reel, especially when you like to take a lot of rods and reels along like I do. Quote
linesider7 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I've always heard that the bps reels are made by pflueger as well. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 I've always heard that the bps reels are made by pflueger as well. I recently read an independant reel review site that said current BPS reels are made by Silstar/Pinnacle. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 9, 2007 Super User Posted June 9, 2007 i don't care who makes them.for the money they are a nice reel. Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Not the Spinning reels just the Bait Casters : The Pflueger President Baitcasting Reel is a very good reel. I would give this reel a try before you give up on Pflueger Baitcasters. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Man I love my Trion, I also have an extreme and Pro Qualifier forom BPS They are equally as good and frequently as much as 40 bucks less than the Trion! : Quote
brian_82 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I have one of the BPS extremes and love it, the low profile is nice for me. I bought a daiwa procaster as a back up to keep in my tackle bag. I tried it a few times to break it in, while its nice I dont like it nearly as much as my BPS. Quote
swimz88 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 ok well my dad has a pfluger PSP-1H (i dont even think the make em anymore) and it's ALRIGHT, i dont really like it that much. like a lot of other people i think their spinning reels are better than their baitcasters. recently, my dad bought a BPS Extreme EX baitcast combo from bass pro, and i think it's a very good rod/reel for the price. the rod and reel were around $60.
