Ok guys, this is a Fishing Line question..

First I started with 8lb Pline fluorocarbon. Caught tons of decent sized bass, 2-8lb bass, BUT anything over 6lbs was snapping my line and frustrating the hell out of me..

This line casted like a dream, had no line twist and was pretty thin.. I loved it, aside from being broken off too easily.

I switched to that Extra Strong CXX (I believe) in 10lb, but it was just too thick for my liking, and when I casted it with weightless senkos or anything, the line was just so twisted and looked like it still wanted to be on the reel.

So I switched again to that Yo-Zuri I believe it's called, Hybrid.. It's 8lb.. Not many complaints, It's not as nice as the 8lb pline fluoro, but it's better then the Extra Strong I was using. BUT BUT BUT.... I haven't caught more then a few 10in bass on the past 6 trips I've been on (all using this line).. I'm fishing the same spots, same techniques, and more! Nothing!! It's becoming very annoying.. Is it just because the spawn is over and they've moved to much deeper water? Or could it be the line... I just don't understand...

Maybe I'm trying to blame my last few outings on Line, but maybe it could be a genuine issue? I don't know..

I want (and i'm sure everyone else wants) thin diameter line, that's strong... I've heard terrible things about braid (I fish Soft Plastics 99% of the time), so I'm not sure what else to go for...

I fish wacky rigged senkos a lot, so twisted line just looks terrible =\

Oh, I'm using a Sedona 1500 Reel with a BPS Tourny Series rod..

I will soon be getting a Stradic 1500 / Extreme Rod combo from BPS, so line suggestions for each would be great!

use suffix siege..strongest mono for the diameter,,also your problem may have been your drag.if the drag was to tight the line will snap very often with large fish

I considered this, and doubt that is the problem. I fish from bank, casting from a dock along tulies and such, so if the bass takes me into the tall weeds and tulies, there's no way getting the fish, so I'm forced to pull the fish a bit to the side, although my drag still screams and the fish still fights..

So for those situations, It's very tough for me to play with the fish and not be concerned about losing the fish in weeds.

But that could be one of the problems.. The 8lb Pline that I originally used, wasn't great for the other reason that the line got beat up. If I got snagged, there would be 20 spots in the 20 yards of line that was being pulled in which the line was messed up.. So that's the only other negative with it.

I don't know why the fish aren't cooperating but it is not the Yo-Zuri.  Also, it seems maybe you are asking a lot of your line.  Really thin and low visibility line is great for open water fishing but when trying to horse large fish out of thick vegetation, not so much.  So I guess that's not much help, huh?

I have a feeling that its not the line either.  Lack of fish could be many many many factors.  It could be weather (earlier/later spawn), it could be environmental (lack of baitfish), it could be time of year.  But I don't think it is the line.

Its hard to completely replicate the fishing factors that were in effect last month because there are so many variables that you have no control over.  Heck for all you know someone could have come in one day and fished them all out and ate them.  But likely the fish could have moved deeper and since you mostly bank fish, you probably cant reach where they are at now.

The only way to tell for sure for yourself though is to switch back to your old line and throw in a few again.  See if you get as many hookups as last month.  That may be the only way to prove it to yourself.

IWe all heard of confidence baits, why cant there be a confidence line?  Also about braid, I personally love it for bank fishing.  Especially when there are pads arround.  I get plenty of hookups using worms also.  Sometimes you have to give it a shot and decide for yourself.  Just because you heard bad things about something doesnt mean that it wont work for you.

Good luck! and Have Fun ;)

I'm wondering if the line sensitivity has changed a great deal. The fluoro stuff I was using, I could feel a tap on the line with ease, now i haven't felt taps, maybe due to no fish, or maybe due to sensitivity..

How does Braid compare to Flouro and Mono when it comes to sensitivity.

I fish wacky rigged senkos more then anything, so feeling that little tap or seeing that little movement means a whole lot to me...

Braid is the most sensitive type of line because it offers NO STRETCH, thats why a lot of people like it for worms and jigs!

Interested... and the down side? Is it very visible under water? Or why doesn't everyone use it. There's gotta be a catch!

ALSO, if I did go to Braid.. What do I need to know about Spooling the line / Other things... Anything I should be aware of?

It is more visible but you can always add a florocarbon leader of a few feet.  No real special way to spool it as far as I know.  Just do it normally, there is very very low line memory so that wont be to much of a factor either.  Some people do use a mono backing to prevent it from possibly harming the spool.

Some of the downsides are that it is more abrasive than mono or floro.  Low stretch can sometimes rip the hook out of the mouth of a fish if you set it to hard.  Some say it also can affect the action of lures  But again adding a leader should help this.  Also it is pretty strong stuff.  If you hook up on a rock with 50 pound braid, its going to be hard to get out. Its expensive.

So basically there are pros and cons of using any line.   I think it can come in handy bank fishing, especially when getting fish out of the pads.  But basically you gotta try it and see for yourself.  What one person likes, others may not.
