Hop Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I just noticed that Bass Pro Shops 6' M and ML Crankin' Stick Casting Rods are on sale for 29.99. Is this a good buy. I am looking for a topwater rod and my wife is looking for ideas for Fathers day? Thanks Quote
Cephkiller Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 That would be a great topwater rod. I have a 7'6" medium that I use for deep crankng. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 6, 2007 Super User Posted June 6, 2007 If you're inclined to spend a little more, the David Fritts crankin' combos are also on sale for $120. The 4.7 reel is backordered though. Quote
Fishin49er Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 I used the same sale and bought myself a 6'6" ML to use for that same thing and I love it so far. Good rod for a very good price. Quote
lawpirate Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Burley (or Fishin49er), Since you mentioned the Crankin' Combo, I was wondering if you had used it or had any impressions about it. I just ordered the David Fritts combo about a week ago, with the 7'6" MH rod and the 5.2:1 reel, and am waiting on it to get off back order and be delivered. I was looking for something to use with the deepest diving crankbaits I could find, and this was the only thing I could find within my budget. I also started a topic the other day called "Preferred line for Crankbaits" and this is the rig I will be putting that line on. I have decided on #10 Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft. What do you think...good choice on the rod and reel, and will the Yo-Zuri be a pretty good match for pulling the deep divers? I got some pretty good input on the other thread, enough to make me decide to step down from #12 line. Thanks. Quote
Fishin49er Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I would think that lb test line would be good. It will have the smaller diameter to get the crankbaits down to the right depth but will also be strong (16.5 lb breaking strength) and abrasion resistant. Quote
Hot Rod Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I have three BPS Crankin' Sticks 6' ML for throwing smaller cranks around shallow cover 6'6" M I use mostly for top water or medium sized cranks 7' M I use for larger deep diving cranks. I am satisified with all of them for the price. If you are throwing larger top waters like spooks go with the 6'6" if you are thowing lighter topwaters like poppers go for the 6' ML. I have my 7' strung with 15# Yo Zuri hybrid. It is quite impressive in all aspects for deep crankin' and it will be a mainstay in my arsenal for sure. I like mono on my topwater rod though since it floats better and has a little more stretch. Quote
bassdocktor Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I have 2 of the 7' rods and they are great. I'm very happy with them. If you look back through past posts there are alot of members on here that are also. bassdocktor Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 10, 2007 Super User Posted June 10, 2007 I have 3 Crankin sticks. A really great rod for the purpose. At that price they're a steal. Quote
