I don't know why.  probably a throw back to simpler times,

but I want to buy a new spincast reel.

What is the considered the "ultimate" in spincast reels these days.

Ya know, light, smooth, castable. fun to fish.

same one as from 30 yrs ago,...zebco 33 :)

This is an 8 lbr that this young man caught with a zebco 33 combo.  (I just love sharing this pic :) )

Dad helped keep the rod tip up but other than that, it was an 8 yr old, an 8 lbr and  a Zebco 33 in this battle and look who won!

:(  :o

I would have to agree with the Zebco.  I have some from Mitchell, Abu Garcia, Zebco and Johnson.  Nothing special about any of them.  They are simple and easy to use.  Now that I fish almost exclusively for musky I have switched to baitcasters to accomodate the heavier mono that I use.  Good luck.

Don't forget about the Diawa Procaster maybe?

Diawa makes pretty good stuff but many manufacturers also make junk on the low end.

I do own a Johnson country mile and other than something coming loose and having to tighten it I kind of like it for crappie, catfish etc.

Try the Diawa for the heck of it I'm courious,

I use the metal framed 33 classic not made in USA any more it holds up good for a beater but still smooth and realiable  8 lb test makes it cast smoother and further i tried braid but the drag didnt work very good so i put some 8 lb maxx on it its fine so far.Mine got dragged by my 4 wheeler for a good 5 minutes through sticks and leaves and had no problems when i got to wear i was fishing

Great pic LBH. I used Zebco's when I was small and I remember when I was about 10 my dad took me to a fishing rodeo and I won 2nd place with a Catfish while winning a Zebco 808. That was one of my most memorable fishing experiences. Avid, I say go for it. I don't see why a Zebco 33 wouldn't be a blast even if to bring back some memories. I still see a lot of people along the rivers using them. I read an article a few years back where Woo Daves was using one to skip under docks. I just got my Granddaughter a Snoopy 202 and I hope she gets a 5lb smallie on it !!! ;D :)

I highly urge you to check out the Zebco Omega ZO3.  I've tried the new 33's (original, platinum, etc...) and none of them even come close to comparing to the smooth ZO3.

I do own a few of the old, old 33's, and they are tough to beat, but only for light tackle and light fish.

Here's a review for the Omega ZO3:  http://www.tackletour.com/reviewzebcoomega.html

I know most anglers go for the fancier baitcasters and spincasts, but I never made the transition.  I'm sure there are advantages to the nicer, more expensive reels, but I doubt you'll be disappointed in the Omega.  I think they run around $50.  Hope you try it out.

The only spincast I've ever used was a 33, and used them for a number of years. Haven't tried the new ones (hadn't heard of the omega, Thanks!). I've got 2 of the old ones that I'm going to try and make 1 good 1 out of. No better than I am at that kind of thing, ya'll wish me luck ;D...

                                                   As Ever,

                                                    skillet

BTW When you had a fiberglass rod, you could hold the hook (VERY carefully) and use the bend in the rod to "slingshot" the bait under things...
