jomatty Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 we have all heard that florocarbon line is no stretch, but i wonder if that is totally true. now dont get me wrong i realize that no line, even braid, is no stretch. im refering in relation to mono. im not sure that floro stretches less than mono. the only data ive seen on it was at tackle tour and their finding seem to support that it has as much stretch as mono lines. i still like floro, and it is the line i use more than any other but i dont find it to be any less stretchy than mono. just curious what others thoughts are on this, matt Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 29, 2007 Super User Posted May 29, 2007 all flouro stretchs as much or more than mono.flouro is however slightly more sensitive because it is denser and sinks giving you a straighter line to your bait.i've also heard that after it stretchs the first time it doesn't stretch as much the second time.i have not seen any tests to prove this yet. Cephkiller Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 i've also heard that after it stretchs the first time it doesn't stretch as much the second time This could be the it! It makes perfect sense. Perhaps we should refer to fluoro as having less elasticity than mono. I don't know if testing will support it, but it sure feels like fluoro has less stretch when setting the hook, so maybe this is true. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 29, 2007 Super User Posted May 29, 2007 having found a flouro i like in seguar invizx i would have to agree with that.since i'm not screwing around with crappy handling line i can actually fish with it. Quote
Guest avid Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Ceph makes a good point. I really do not like the fact that the manufacturers and their pimps, errr pro endorsers, keep saying that flouro has less stretch than mono when every test I have seen says otherwise. but the "elasticity" could be true. I have definitly noticed that flouro is much more manageable after a "break in" period. As far as brands. BPS XPS flouro is as good as it gets IMHO. Quote
jomatty Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 i dont know if i think the elasticity thing is true or not (im not disagreeing im just not sure). it def handles better later in the day if it has been spooled before the trip but im not sure about the stretch issues. on the hookset i dont find it to have a noticeably less stretch than mono even after a break in period. i do prefer it though and find it to be slightly more sensitive (power of suggestion maybe) and will continue to use it.
