Hello!

I have recently acquired at GLoomis 803BCR and was wondering what reel would be the best match for this rod.  I have read alot about the Shimano 50MG and some of the Diawa baitcasters.  I have around a $250 budget.  I would like the option to fish different lures and baits but mainly will be fishing jigs and worms.  What combo do others use?

Thanks for the help!

The is a big issue if you purchase a Chronarch Mg for that rod, you won 't want anything else in the future.

Shimano or Daiwa or just about any reel for $250 is a good choice.  Mg, Zillion, Revo Stx, even Ardent  are all well liked by folks on the boards.  You may even be able to find a TD Z on ebay for $250....love my Z.

All of the reels mentioned here are quality reels.

But I would recommend that you take the rod to any of your local shops that carry any of the reels your interested in, and mount the reel on it to see how it fits your hand and the balance you will might be looking for..

Just my .02¢

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Thanks for the responses!  I was hoping to hear one is above the rest, however I realize it just comes down to personal preference.  I will have to feel them all out as sugguested by ReelMech.

I have the BCR803 paired with an older Shimano Calcutta 251.  I like the slower speed and it has some real cranking power to bring in the big ones.  But if I had to pick another, I'd go with the Daiwa Zillion.  It's easy to use, palms well, and cast like a dream.

raul said it best. i just got an amazing deal on 7 rods and reels, and 1 of them was a g loomis glx803 with an chronarch 50mg, and it is without a doubt the lightest, most confortable outfit i have ever used. almost makes me not want to pick up my diawa sol and my curados which are fitted on johnny morris 85 millions. the bait monkey is already knocking at your door.
