After a brief and depressing exchange with reel mech, I went over the rod I dunked and salvaged.

FYI I lost a GLoomis BCR875GLX overboard in my lake last September.  After eight months in the water I found it.  After cleaning it the euphoria of finding it clouded my vision.  Because the titanium guides did not rust it looked good at first glance, but after closer inspection the cork is spongy and apparantly rotting, the finish is "blistered" in many areas, the guides are all loose, and the blank feels soft.

In short, it's totaled.

So I went to the Loomis website and filled out the "no questions asked" expeditor form.  For $50.00 total charge they are sending me a brand new rod.  That's a $365.00 rod for 50 bucks.  I will have to ship my rod back to them in the prepaid tube.

But still. How many companies will do this.  Well St. Croix will, because they did when I broke a reel seat through stupidity.

I have never done this before, and will let you know how it all turns out, but the process was very easy.

Now, how do ya think a new Daiwa Zillion would work with this big azz rod?

they should do it.you are paying for a no questions asked replacement service so that's what they are obligated to do.i thinka diawa zillion would be great on the new rod.

From Terminator II, "Are we learning anything yet?"

The Loomis didn't fall out of your canoe avid, it jumped out! G.Loomis rods are allergic to Daiwa reels. :;)

Avid,

I have used the expiditor service 3 different times. It's amazingly painless and quick. I hope you are as pleased with it as I am. I love the Loomis waranty. The zillion should work OK, but a Shimano 50Mg would work better. ;)

Are you sure it's an allergy?  It could have been suicide!

Avid,  You'll be satisfied!

On another note, it cracks me up that everytime the Xpeditor service is brought up, some non Loomis owner says something like dodgeguy's comment. (no offense, DG, you just happened to be the one today)  Always a non Loomis owner.  What they fail to realize in the whole "cost so much you should get a free replacement" mentality is that Loomis Prices have remained almost stagnant for the last 15 years.  My first IMX MBR784 (bought in '94) had a msrp of $225... the current price $235  The $225 price DID NOT include the Xpeditor service.  SO to all you Loomis haters out there, the price of their product have adjusted slower than the rate of inflation so it's actually less expensive now and now has a no questions asked warranty...  can your favorit brand say that?

Loomis rods were a good deal back then and a better deal now.  As long as we have car doors and clumbsy people, no questions asked warranties are a good thing.

Rant over.

I'm glad to hear that everyone who has used the service was completely satisfied.

Ronnie, The 50mg is a great reel but way to small.  This is a "mag heavy" 7 foot 3 inch rod.

It was designed for Carolina rigs, but I bought it for the smaller (mattlure type) swimbaits and pitching soft plastics on heavily pegged weights for Florida "mat busting"

I am actually considering a round reel, instead of a low profile.

Oh, and I have it on very good authority that most people who buy Shimano reels are gay

I don't know about that avid.

I don't know about a company that puts out reels like this

Daiwa_TDito103M.JPG

This would go great with that one outfit you have ;D ;D

Also .... a Pixy??? Talk about

This is all in good fun. I have recently purchased two Daiwa reels and love them, but still prefer my Shimanos.

Avid,

Don't underestimate the 50 MG and it's 10+ Lbs of drag. I have one on a 7' H St. Croix(4C70HF) frog/hvy grass rod and a 7' H (5C70HF) St.Croix which is my small swimbait/c-rig/big jig rod. These are customs and balace well with the MG's but the MG's are every bit as strong and capable as 90% of the round reels out there... they just hold a lot less line. And as a braid user, you might like that.

Just don't fear the 50 MG, it's a lot more reel than it appears. ;)

We'll just pretend you didn't make the "gay" comment.

Avid I've never needed the service yet but a few months ago my MBR IMX 844 lost the top guide inner ring. I contacted GL requesting the part, it was over overnight delivered free of charge. ;)

If you look in details at the reel seat of your rod, in one corner says ..." Zillion "

Best luck

I was checking out the JDM zillion.

they make a 4.9:1 "crazy cranker" model that also uses the magforce Z intstead of the magforce V in the US version.  that low gear ratio is  high torque, light at only 8.1 oz's, but powerful with a mind blowing 13.23 lbs of drag.  I could crank a 8 lber out of the slop without having to just "hang on".

It has a capacity of 147 yards of 10# test line.   It's a $30 more than the domestic zillion, but seems to have everything I'm looking for.

Plus it's a Daiwa, so I can order one without handling it and be confident about the feel.

I'm not ready to buy yet, but that was an eye opener.

PS. Sorry about the gay comment.  I left myself wide open and got zinged good with the "pixie".   ;)

Avid, dude, get a %$%^^%*#& swimbait reel for that thing!

I was talking to one of my buddies that only swimbaits. he never learned how to "regular fish" just straight to swimbaits. kind of weird actually. we were talking reels. he has a luna 300 and loves it.  i would go that route.

I honestly don't think you should use a low pro reel on that rod unless its a curado 300 or a daiwa bbs. i would go with the luna or calcutta though, you will be better off in the long run.

whoops, sorry i was thinking that it was a BBR965C.

but if you do go the round reel route, i hear good things 'bout the luna, and i guess i've become a known calcutta fan boy too.

Just buy your rod from Cabela's next time.  No matter why you need to replace it they will replace it for free.  No need to pay the $50 from Loomis when they will do that.

One last question before this one goes to the thread graveyard.

Do you need a receipt to use the expeditor service??  I have a receipt on my 843 but wondering about if I pick one up on the buy/sell boards......like an 842, then an 844.... ;)

I'll have Daiwas and Shimanos on them.  In my fishing world, there is harmony and peace....and a whole bunch of mixed up tackle.

I have had 1 IMX and 2 GLX rods replaced via the "Expiditor service" and did not produce a receipt for any of them. You must however return the broken rod.

Glad you found your rod & if you are looking for a reel with a strong drag system I have read where the ABU Revo STX has a dandy.
