linesider7 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 We sell a d-shock combo at my store for $29.99. If it's the same product, I'd use it for a back up. Quote
Cephkiller Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Can you give us an idea of the budget you have and the primary techniques and baits that you use? Quote
newbiebassfreak Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 the only thig is the daiwa is lighter it will be more comfortable through out a day of fishing. Quote
college Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 my budget is probably about 50 dollars i usually go with a texas rigged worm, due to the amount of algae and twigs you pull up in my local lake Quote
Cephkiller Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 If I were in your situation, I would use the money for a new rod. You will be amazed at the difference a quality rod will make in your ability to detect fish. This is especially important when fishing jigs or soft plastics as you do. For $50, you can find a BPS Bionic Blade on sale pretty frequently. Quote
college Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 while i have your attention Cephkiller, as i said before i have the daiwa and the ugly stick, the daiwa snapped today, the only way i can describe it, is that it is now one hole shorter, because i cut off the excess of the break, should i render this rod completely useless? sorry for all the questions, but thank you for all the answers Quote
newbiebassfreak Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 the guy above that mentioned a nicer rod does help. i started with cheaper rods and higher modulus rod do make a difference especially with texas rig. some fish will just barely pick it up and the spit a second later. Quote

I recommend removing the last guide you have left and replacing it with a rod tip of appropriate size. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 16, 2007 Super User Posted May 16, 2007 I bought my little girl the D-shock 6' casting rod (2piece) and I must say I was quite surprised how it performed for a $12.99 rod. On its first outing, my daughter headed for the playground since she didn't catch anything after 15 minutes. I casted it out and on about the 7th cast caught a nice bass. She was a little upset since she's looking to catch her first bass (she's a trout catchin' machine though) but at least she had fun at the playground. If you want to see what products Daiwa makes, I strongly advise you to hide your wallet. Words like Pixy, Alphas, Zillion and Steez will enter your vocabulary and bring you one step closer to the "dark side". ;D Quote
