LAO162 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm looking to give a spinning rod as a gift. It will go with a Daiwa Exceler 2500. The politically correct price range would be about $65 or less. My objective is to replace my father-in-law's heavy power rod with something lighter for lures in the 1/8 to 1/2 oz. range. Currently, the BPS Extreme and Fenwick HMX are available for $65. However, the Shimano Clarus or possibly the St. Croix Premier seem to be in the same ball park as well. I'd probably go 6'6" in a 2-Piece model. Casting, sensitivity are light weight are of equal importance. I like my BPS Extreme, but I like the Fenwick name for a gift. Thanks for your suggestions. Leon Quote
Jeff_NHBA Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I've got both the Clarus and the Extreme rods. The Extreme rod for me is more comfortable since it has a larger diameter grip than the Clarus. Quote
LAO162 Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 Thanks Shellback, other than the grip, are they fairly close in performance? Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted May 15, 2007 Super User Posted May 15, 2007 Clarus has a lifetime warrenty also Quote
Triton21 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I do not own all three of these rods but am pleased with the price and performance of BPS Extreme. Right now BPS has the $99.99 Extreme on sale for $64.99. Kelley Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I recently purchased two BPS Extremes. Couldn't be happier. Quote
