Cephkiller Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 all the finesse technics i use baitcasting with no problem Then I wouldn't worry about it. Some guys use casting equipment for everything. Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 memphis, Although I do carry a spinning rod in the rod locker, it rarely comes out. I do 99% of my finesse with BC also. (and I hate the lack of comfort that spinning seats offer) The biggest reason people use spinning gear with those techniques is so they can cast the light weight trouble free. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 Hang in there. It is just a matter of time before you get accustomed to using one. I started fishing with spinning gear 4 seasons ago and my first experience with a bc reel was $#@$$ less than ideal. ;D But I am glad I didn't give up and wonder how I went through most of my first season without bc reels. While bc gear can handle most bass applications, it is my preferance that I love the vertical fall I get with a spinning reel with certain lures that the bc reel cannot duplicate. Many times, to get something relatively close, one has to strip off line. But other than that, I use both reel types and love them both. Hope you will too. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 The first time your line gets all twisted up you'll wonder why ytou ever bothered to learn spinning. ;D Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 The first time your line gets all twisted up you'll wonder why ytou ever bothered to learn spinning. ;D The same can be said for baitcasting and backlashes! I use spinning gear 100% of the time. I'm not anti baitcaster, just not my style. Quote
memphis Bassin Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 thanks guys!! I may try still to get the hang of it just for skipping purposes...I can skip alittle with BC but im picking backlashes alot when i do that... Do any of yall have a certain brand yall use?? Im an all star man, and im using a allstar titanium 6'6 with a abu cardinal reel....im a quantum man but i got the reel from my brother inlaw.... Id like to use a smaller one, the cardinal seems heavy and bulky...I dont think the rods the problem, so its gotta be the reel!(or me) anyways i could use some help on choosing a reel...thanks guys Patrick Quote

I use spinning gear 100% of the time. I'm not anti baitcaster, just not my style. True enough, but when I get a backlash with a casting reel, I can always blame myself; Lack of concentration, casting into the wind...I never blame the reel. BUT, with spinning it doesn't matter how careful you are...line twist is gonna happen! Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Shimano Stradic 2500 is a nice bass reel. Hot, that's what I have on both my rods. Very minimal twist with flouro, and zero with powerpro. FWIW I try to close the bail by hand all the time. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 On the spinning reels that I use braid on I don't get line twists. With mono I do but by putting the line on right and by closing the bail by hand you can help a bunch. The twists can still be dealt with much easier than backlashes in a baitcaster. I'm no pro fisherman but it just seems to me like a spinning rod would be more sensitive than the same baitcaster. If it weren't why would they bother making spiral wrapped rods for bc's? Try a spinning reel for the heck of it but try a decent one. Shimano Symetre or Pflueger medalist or president for reels among others are good starters. if you like it so be it if not you are not out much. For the rod buy the same models as you are using but in spinning and see how you like them. Bottom line, whatever catches fish use it! Quote
edbassmaster Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 This year I hve been using primarily baitcast setups, but when I fish a weightless senko on a baitcaster its like nothings on the line. I like the spinning equipment for that. Quote
newbiebassfreak Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 i learned on spinners. you can really whip lightweight lures much further. it just a matter of feeling the tip of your rod backloading and slinging. I can cast a 1/16oz bullet weight with 4 inch worm easy. sometimes you can get a ton of problems with spinner from how you spool your line on, especially fluorocarbon. i go to the park after i put it on; I open the bail and walk out the line and lay it down . if you got a boat then justt let the line run out behind the boat with no lure. then reel it in pichin the line with you fingers before it spools to keep it tight. it will still get a little memory from the spool but now its managable. also use a 2500 size spool or larger and larger and the line size goes up. tiny spools leave tighter looop of memory. somethin that also happens is the line wants to jump off your spool and twist when your lure hits the water. with a little practice just flip the bail over before as it hits the water. line twist and birdnests eliminated no matter what combo your using. in most cases your line after a 100 casts will start to lose memory more and more. the other thing cool about spinners is that if your line is not jumping off and twisting you can just leave bail open as the bait hit the water and falls straight down to the bottom. essentially you have added the depth of the water to the distance of your cast since the bait doesnt arc back towards you as it falls to the bottom. good luck i kill um with 1/8 oz drop shot and texas on 6 lb fluoro. find some info on spooling and flip that bail when casting you'll get . i havnt has a line problem in years.
