I have 50 or so of them and they are fine rods but I have'nt bought any since

Allstar sold out. I have broke a few put Allstar allways stood behind them so

thats why I stayed with them till they sold out. I now have all my rods custom

built with G-Lomiss blanks and they work well to ( I have my name and address

on all of them) Makes me look like a PRO.

Try and find the older Pre-buyout rods or go with the TAS or Platinum series.

Good rods, I have several.

I've used them for close to 20 years... dollar for dollar they are some of the best values to be had.

Well, I have a high regard for flechero's opinions, especially regarding rods. In 1997 I bought my first "better" rods, a medium power/ fast action spinning rod and a heavy power baitcaster. These All Stars were VERY special to me. However, after picking up my first St. Croix a few years later, I gave my All Stars away.

To be fair, equipment should be compared at pricing points. As flechero said,

"dollar for dollar they are some of the best values to be had."

And that's exactly how I meant it.  Although I still have a couple factory built All Star rods and use them as loaners.  I do however, continue to carry several rods that I built on All Star blanks.   ;)

Much appreciated, thank you.

I have quite a few Team All Star rods and really like them. Good rods for the money, however, check out eBay for some rods made before the buyout. There is a difference, at least I can tell the difference. St. Croix rods are also a good choice and I highly recommend Gator Rods out of Fla., not so much for brown bass but, they are a real work horse for green bass. ;)

I have four AS rods....all pre sellout models.  Three spinning and one casting model.  They've been super rods and put a lot of fish in the boat.

Like mentioned above I have 2 of the pre-sale rods that I really like.  I bought them on this sites flea market with a comparable price to the $79 Cabela's IMX6.  No comparison the All Stars are much better.  I just had a custom rod built (Hendrix Rod's) and again no comparison.  I paid more and got more.

Can anyone here tell me the difference in a pre vs. post sale All Star blank, for any model except the "Classic" which is now an import?  I have been to the blank plant in Houston, know several of the people who work there... most of the employees in the blank plant have been there over 10 years, some over 20yrs... making the same blanks and models as always.  If the design and production staff can't tell a difference, how can all of you?

I am going by the strength. I have never broken a Older TAS rod and I have broken three on the hookset right at the same point, right a the second eye above the handle. That is my gauge for a before or after. It could be a fluke but, I have not bought any more of the newer ones and switched to Gator Rods, which are great rods for the price. A lot of us use them here in Maryland. I have a question for you Flechero. Do you know whose blanks Gator Rods uses? These really are great rods, and very tough. The owner is a stand up guy as well. ;)

I own 2 All-Star American Classics and they are awesome rods for the price, if you're looking for a really good rod at a low price I highly recommend them.

Justfishin,

I have no idea what blanks they use, I hadn't heard of them before reading your post.  Maybe Gator Glass blanks??  ...lol  Sorry, just going with the name.

Flechero,

Thanks. These rods are  worth checking into. A lot of the guys are sold on them here in Maryland. I worked a few top 150 tourneys on the Lower Potomac in the early 90's and a lot of the pro's used them as well, as I saw them on the decks of their boats. They are quality rods, for sure. Built well. I highly recommend them. I would say when the next bass show comes to your area this winter, check to see if a stand is set up for them. I know he comes to Baltimore and to the Harrisburg PA show. Hit the hyper-link in my post and take a look. ;)

I did check the link out... I like to see what others are doing with rods.  His prices seem very low... unless there is a different price structure for custom work.  I am just glad to see "regular" guys making a living building rods.   ;)
