Guest avid Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I'm seriously considering a round baitcaster for my flipping. I see they have gotten lighter, but many maintain the low gear ratio that I want for increased torque. I want strong, light, smooth, and well made. Price is always an issue, but I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks, avid Quote

switz Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Speaking of the Calcutta--would the older (silver) Calcutta 100 be too light in the loafers? Quote
Guest avid Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Daiwa Millionaire - Man that brings back memories. It was my first baitcaster. Had it for about 15 years. I think it was in my house when my ex...............we'll, that's another story for another day Quote
Super User Alpster Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 Avid, I have this reel and have used it on my flippin stick. It's a dandy for about $100. ABU 6600D5. Ronnie Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 I have been using an older Calcutta 251. It has been fantastic (a little big though). The 100 size would probably be easier for just flipping. Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 Avid, Ronnie is right, the D5 is a great reel. Even though it is a round reel, it has a recessed reel foot that gives it a low profile feel, and plenty of line capicity 12/245 and 23.5 IPT. I've had mine for two full seasons and wouldn't trade it. Falcon Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 CTE200GT (5.0:1) Strong, silent, smooth and reliant. My first reel was purchased in 2001 and used mostly for striper fishing. Converting that to "bass years" would make it well over 100 years old! I had ReelMech service that reel and a brand new twin last year. I asked if there were any noticable differences in the reels. He commented that neither reel had any signs of wear and nothing was replaced, just cleaned and lubricated. Disclaimer: The reel does NOT float. : http://fish.shimano.com/ Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 CTE200GT (5.0:1)Disclaimer: The reel does NOT float. : Another vote for the calcutta here. I also have RW's old corvalus (not old , but was his before). If you want to try a round body for flippin to see if it's what you want, I can send this one down for you. (it's pretty much brand new) Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 12, 2007 Super User Posted May 12, 2007 I have a Shimano CT50 Gear Ratio: 5:0.1 Weight: 7.4 oz Bearings: 3+1 Small, light, ideal for close quarter combat Quote
telecaster Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 The Diawa Luna looks like a decent reel.Relativly small for a canister. Would you go opposite handed for a flippin stick? I ask cuz it seems to me it would be quicker not swicthing hands on those bites that ya get on the fall. Also the shop down the road from me has a good deal on a lefty Luna they ordered for someone that never picked it up. Quote
