cowboy Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I have swapped all my reels over to using braided line.. I love the feel, sensitivity, and no stretch advantages...... my problems began when I was fishing with a friend that is a strict mono fisherman and I couldn't get a bite while he just proceeded to pull in fish after fish. So I asked what I was doing wrong and he said the fish could probably see that "stupid" line your using....... so I tied on a leader and smiled........ next 5 cast I landed 3 fish all about 1.5 lbers..... then the 6th cast and my brushhog started swiming off fast and I set the hook on a good fish and then pop.. the leader broke at the tie....... I'm using a J knot..... so I tie on another leader thinking that my knot wasn't right...... I hook into another good bass a couple cast later and pop...... breaks off at the knot...... I'm using 14lb Berkley Vanish Transition as my leader since it's what I had on hand. Is the braid cuttin into my knot? I wet down the knot as I tie it...... HELP! I really don't want to switch back to mono... Quote
Vyron Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 if the braid and leader have similar diameter i use uni to uni knot in case the leader is of bigger diameter than the braid line i use a swivel Quote
SneakySnook Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I use 10-20lb power pro and a 15-20lb flourocarbon leader. I tie them together with a uni to uni knot and have never had one slip. Quote
captbob Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Braid will cut: I always terminate braid in a loop-(with huffnagel) like a double line uni with about 12 turns. Then attach the leader with an albright, so braid does not pull across the leader--definitely Fluoro. Quote
