Pa Angler Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I just purchased my first 2 baitcasters they are the low profile type. I went to put line on and I noticed there are holes in the spool. I need to know how to attach the line to the spool? There are no instructions as they are combos. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 i just tie a regular knot around the spool and then wrap a strip of electrical tape around as backing until i feel i've taken up enough space. Quote
BPSGuy003 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 You should always put monofilament on before you put any braided lines on. Electrical tape will do the job...but not suggested. Match your mono to either the diameter of your line or the #test of the line. This should do the job....oh to connect the two lines, try a simple blood knot. Hope this helps. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 not suggested?why not?as a matter of fact when you have holes in the spool it's a great idea to keep moisture and garbage out of the reel. Quote

Thanks, But I do know about the braided deal. What I needed to know is this, Do you thread the line through the holes in the spool or attach the line to the spool just like a spinning reel? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 Attach the line to the spool like you would on any other reel. I use an Arbor Knot: http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Quote

I saw the G Man do this on BASS tips but I had some reservations on it so I made a post in this forum to see how everyone else is doing it. Quote

SneakySnook Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Wow, I've just been threading the line through one of the holes an then winding up. Is this a problem? I do the same. Quote
ThaKing Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 My curado 100D doesnt have the holes so i have to wrap the line around the spool and tie a knot then reel the line. Is it the same as putting it through the holes though? I never really tried that i just wrap it around the spool even if it has holes. Quote
Pa Angler Posted May 4, 2007 Author Posted May 4, 2007 Thanks guys for the info, Seems this one has a mixed crowd so I did the easy thing and threaded it through the holes in the spool with 12lb dia. 50lb test I doubt I'll get spooled. I'm using it for heavy cover and med. to large swimbaits. Quote
