Hey guys as you all know recently many of us jumped on the deal to buy the TD-Z at cabelas for $200.

Thank you "The_Natural" :o

When I recieved my reels I started playing with them and I noticed that it was not as smooth as i thought they should be and it made this weird noise. Sometimes when I push the casting button and start cranking the handle to engage the reel, it wouldn't fully engage.

So instead of shipping it back to cabelas because I really wanted the reels, I went to Daiwa here in Ceritos California (20miles) from my house and dropped it off.

They have done the following service to them

1. Adjust drag system

2. Adjust Rotation

3. Adjust free spool system.

I'm guessing these are the standard services they provide?

But on one of the reels 2 ball bearings were changed. Part # f57-7703 and f79-8402.

There was of course no charge because I told them that these reels are Brand New! In fact I didn't even put line on them yet.

So the point I am trying to make is if you have any problems with your reels call daiwa and see what they can do. I was thinking about sending them to reel mech for service because I hear nothing but great things about his work. I was thinking I shouldn't have to pay to get a NEW reel serviced. I dont know how much it would have cost to changed those bearings but if I didn't bring it to them I would have to pay out of pocket which I think is wrong.

I asked them why would the reel need to changed out the bearings and one of the customer service told me that the bearing has rusted out maybe because it was sitting there for so long. Guys is this normal? A bearing rusting out before it was ever used? Dont get me wrong I'm not trying to bash Daiwa because I really like their products and plan to keep the reels along with my Alphas ito. I am worried that after the warrantee expires and it happens again, I'd have to pay to replace the defected parts. Any comments welcome. ;)

Keep it serviced yearly and there should not be any problems.  About the bearings,  that is kind of strange. :-?

There wasn't any bearing rusted out, trust me. Nothing is perfect in life, and you just got one with a bad bearing. These thing do happen. I bought 3 of these reels, and couldn't be happier. Wish I had bought 5 of them. But, I went shopping for two more reels and found a Sol and a Fuego both on sale for $200, so I still got 5 new reels, just not all TDZs.

i bought a couple of them from cabelas also. mine were okay but alittle dry so i used the oil that came with them and added a couple drops to the bearings, now they're smooth as silk again.

One of mine is still at the Daiwa Authorized shop waiting on parts to arrive.  It's been three weeks  ;).

I too would rather keep it and get it fixed than send it back for a refund.  My other one is good as gold.

I cleaned and lubed all of mine right off the bat, even though only two of them seemed dry and not as smooth as they should be.  It was obvious they had been sitting a while, but they are all perfect now.  I always clean and relube new reels with rocket fuel anyway, so nothing lost...

Your right that is the standard warranty service...

Your right again. You shouldn't have to pay to get a brand new reel serviced if it is under warranty..

Always send in the warranty card that is provided in the box....

Only if the reel has been exposed to a wet environment. If the box had gotten wet while in storage, but then you would be able to tell. Some times in the mfg process the parts have been exposed to moisture before assembly and could have rusted in the factory. The reels aren't lubed until the assembly process starts.

If you maintain the reel through the warranty period, you should have no problems with the reel, and not need new parts. It's all about how you treat your reels.

Don't worry to much, and enjoy your reels...  ;)

I wasn't happy with mine either, I took it apart to find that was bone dry, no a drop of oil or grease on it. Now the problem is fixed and it is ultra smooth.....but got also better bearings and drag washers.

The td-z has been d/c'd for about a year now.  No doubt production stopped well before that.

It shouldn't come as a major surprise that these reels may have some issues.  Even just replacing the old grease and re-oiling.

Unfortunately there appear to be bigger problems than that.  Who knows, maybe these reels are Tsunami victims???

The point is when you buy a quality product from a quality company you get quality service.

No company can guarantee that all there products will be flawless.  But the best companies will promise to repair or replace any defects and then keep their word.

You did well.
