I have 5 Loomis IMX rods and have never fished with a Legend Elite, so I am a little biased. The loomis rods are a joy to fish with and are stellar performers. JMHE

The IMX is a fine upper mid-range rod, but it's unfair to compare it to a Legend Elite. Better compare it to the Legend Tournament rods, and compare the GLX to the Legend Elite. I have several of each, and the Legend Elites will spoil you in a hurry, the IMX just cannot compare well to the Legend Elite.

The IMX and Legend Elite are not the same price. The GLX and Legend Elite are and the IMX and Legend Tournament are around the same price. I'm a St Croix guy so I won't be any help on this topic. I will say that St. Croix and G Loomis are both great companies and both make great rods. You can't go wrong with either one.

Did you build them Ronnie.  I bet you did.  :o

All are my builds, sjr spinning, CR722 casting, MBR844 casting, CR724 casting, FS904 Flippin stick all are spiral wrapped. I've got the handles glued up on a Loomis BackBounce 8' Swimbait rod and will start wrapping it soon.

Nice, one vote for the Elite.  I am on the verge of buying on or the other.  I heard that the GLX uses the same blank as the IMX.  Only difference on the GLX are higher components, so I've heard.... on the internet, which is not a fact.

But yeah, I am leaning towards the elite, only problem is that I've never  fished a loomis before so kinda curious about them.

There is considerable difference in the IMX and GLX blanks. I have several of both. Here I am biased again, but I am convinced that there is no rod more sensitive, balanced and fishable than a G Loomis GLX. JMHO

Although I now build exclusively on St.Croix® blanks unless otherwise requested.

I have built on the IMX, and the LE.

IMHO you will not go wrong with either....

If you can hold the rods side by side, let your hands make the decisions.

Tight Lines!!!

I have currently have all but GLX on hand, but have built on IMX, SCIV, SCV and GLX blanks. It's not unfair to compare IMX to SCV (LE)... in fact if you build them up equally in terms of components, and then spend some time on the lake with both using a t-rig or c-rig, I think you would find that they are VERY comparable. I can't even say that I think the SCV is better than IMX, just a little different. The difference in feel is mainly the difference in tip... the IMX has a more delicate tip in like models. So suit the build to your personal preferences... I use a SCV as a c-rig rod and an IMX as a t-rig rod.

IMX, GLX, SCIV and SCV are all great blanks... we would need certified scales and some high tech equipment (or access to proprietary info) to argue many of the attributes that these have.  Luck for us they all have a different feel so you can chose based on how they feel in hand.

I've got the handles glued up on a Loomis BackBounce 8' Swimbait rod and will start wrapping it soon.

Ronnie,

That's funny, I just glued up the grips and seat last night on an All Star BB896 (I think it will be named "The Beast") and did the layout and static work today. I am looking at thread color as I type this. ...lol Hopefully I'll get it wrapped this weekend.

Three St. Croix including my soft plastics rod, ES70MF. Two G.Loomis GLX, one of which recently replaced my jig and striper rod, IMX MBR844C. So, I am a fan of both companies and familiar with a couple of each one's series. As flechero noted, the blanks are all high quality, but different.

Based on the rods I own and some others I have fished, I consider the Elite series comparable to the IMX. However at any stated rating, the Elite is heavier action. The ES70MF is what I would consider MH in a Loomis. Whichever way you go, I am quite sure you will be very pleased.

There is a difference in the Avid and Legend Elite...significant to me might not be to you. You really have to compare them side by side to determine if the price difference is worth it to you. It is to me, when I have the $$ :o

I honestly believe the Legend Elite compares more closely to the GLX than it does the IMX, but as you can see by this thread, opinions vary. I think it's just too much money, and too important a purchase not to closely compare them and pick the one that has the action and power best suited to what you want to use it for.

Agreed.

This difference is probably not all that important for crankbaits and other "moving" lures, but it is considerable if you are talking about soft plastics or jigs.
