Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Here's my deal I love this set up Pflurger President reel (6735 size) with 8 # test line I use Cabelas Pro Line Mono 6'6" St Croix Premier rod Med Action/fast tip the rod 90 the reel 60 = 150 thats 10 bucks more than you wanted to spend but I have this set up and it's great for the extra 10 bucks Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 19, 2007 Super User Posted April 19, 2007 This is a combination on sale for $169.98 38-940-544-07 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action Extreme XPS (XTR70MS) // Shimano 2500FH reel I suggest Ultra Soft #6 for your line, but BPS doesn't carry it. The orginal Hybrid #4 would be my choice if you want to get everything in one stop at BPS. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59174_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2 Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Wow Thats also a good deal RW those combos are usually 190 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 19, 2007 Super User Posted April 19, 2007 Good advice from Muddy Man. The reel is probably as goos as can be had for 60 bucks. You may take a look at BPS extreme rods. A lot of them are on sale right now, which makes them a lot of bang for the buck. For a few more bucks, RW's suggestion is a great buy. I think you're going to have a problem fishing for panfish with either setup. They will be good for bass, but quite a bit too powerful for panfish. But, that's just my opinion. Cheers, GK Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 19, 2007 Super User Posted April 19, 2007 Maybe you can find a middle ground, but I couldn't enjoy both types of fishing with one combo. I'd want an ultralight with 4# line for panfish and at least a medium with 10# test for Senkos. As has been mentioned, if your outfit is strong enough for Senkos, it'll catch panfish, but won't provide the fun that these scrappy fish can provide on light equipment. Sorry to be negative, but you're talking two different types of fishing. Quote
topwater buzz Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 thanks for the replies. very helpful and all very nice suggestions. I think marty is right though. cant have the best of both worlds when fishing two different types of fish. so with that in mind. BPS has for 149.99 the shimano symetre with xps prolite rod. any thoughts? still maybe a bit of overkill for panfishing? I am having to refrain from another shimano baitcaster even though its killing me! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 20, 2007 Super User Posted April 20, 2007 These are a couple of quality combos, won't break the bank, and give you a nice set up for panfish: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90148_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2 and this one is great for bass: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59170_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 20, 2007 Super User Posted April 20, 2007 Wow Thats also a good deal RW those combos are usually 190 You're right. BPS combo's are ALWAYS on sale, there is no legitimate "List Price." Quote
phase5supply Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I have the same set up as muddy man, it is my first nice spinning rod! I give it an A+ for quality and value. DT Quote
