Bassassasin12 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Anyone one own of these?? I was at dicks and they had a TON of them, some were comboed with st. croix triumphs for 149.99 and the rest were packaged for 139.99. Don't understand why anyone would buy them w/o paying and extra 10 bucks for a 60 dollar rod but anyways... They seemed reallly smooth and I liked the feel of them. I just wonder how they stack up to other spinning reels like the pflueger supremes or the stradic. Quote
Big T Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 The Dick's sporting goods here has that same reel for $79.99 and the combo for $139.99. I have never seen that particular version anywhere otheer than Dick's sporting goods. It maybe a reel that was made by Daiwa for them. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 14, 2007 Super User Posted April 14, 2007 The Capricorn was one of Daiwa 's best spinning reels ever, silky smooth, good looking though a little bit heavy for my taste, comparable to the Stradic in characteristics but a lot smoother, now discontinued is still a top of the line reel. The Tierra took it 's place. Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted April 14, 2007 Author Posted April 14, 2007 so this reel is one of the "dick's specials" I am always hesitant about buying these type reels but this was super smooth. Quote
Big T Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 It looks and feels like a good reel. I would not pay $139 for it because for that price you could get a Stradic or aTierra.I was at Dick's today and saw the new Pfluger Supreme spinning reel. I liked it and would buy one but for the inshore/freshwater duty that my reels see I like Shimano Symtre's better. My wife has a Pfluger Gold Medalist that I bought for her to use, I hope it holds up better than her last one. I do use Pflueger trion ultralight reels when I fishing for panfish. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 15, 2007 Super User Posted April 15, 2007 The "new" Capricorn Dicks is selling is NOT the same Capricorn that Daiwa discontinued. This Capricorn is finished in an orange color scheme, much like the Daiwa Sol, it is also based on the same frame as the new Team Daiwa Tierra, it is almost identical to the Tierra with the excpetion of the "air bail", the Tierra has it, the Capricorn does not. These reels just came out 2-3 months ago, Dicks has them on sale for $79 all the time, I bought one, when they were one sale, I have yet to use it, but at $79 I have not felt a better reel, includeing the Pflueger Medalist I bought a few weeks prior. My spinning reel "collection" consists of 2 Pflueger Presidants, 2 Pflueger Medalists, 2 Pflueger Gold medalist's, a Team Daiwa Advantage, a Daiwa Procyon, and this new Capricorn, the Presidents have been my favorite, but when I finally get to use some of me new ones this year I have a feeling the Capricorn could take over. Bassassasin12 Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 yep this one had an orange finish (which looked really good) and had 8BB. Is 149.99 its MSRP? If I buy one I will defenitly wait for the sale. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 15, 2007 Super User Posted April 15, 2007 I just got a Dicks flyer in my paper, Capricorn spinning and casting reels on sale for $79, Capricorn/Triumph rod combo $129 Quote
Super User MickD Posted April 15, 2007 Super User Posted April 15, 2007 I know nothing about all this orange and not the same as, but the Cabela's and Daiwa equivalents that I bought 2 years ago are really nice reels. They are my favorites, and I cannot imagine anything that would justify paying more for fresh water reels. Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 15, 2007 Super User Posted April 15, 2007 The April 15 flyer did say that it's a "Dick's exclusive." Quote
