RockvilleMDAngler Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I think P-Line fluoroclear is great for the $. It casts well has little/no memory and is pretty darn strong. I have used a lot of Gamma recently and it is better but is REALLY expensive. Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I tried Vanish a few years ago and the backlashes made me swear off fluoro for what I thought was forever. I tried Cabela's this year and it handles almost as well as mono. I also landed a 26-28" tiger muskie on a spinnerbait recently while using it (15 lb test). Although it was nicked and I had to retie, it held. Other brands might be better, but I wouldn't know. Quote
Wayne Gatt Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hi, one of the other things you may wish to try, is to continue to use your brade, but add about a rod lenth or a little more or Floro as a leader. I do this a ton on Lake Erie where the water is so clear, it's almost crystal at times. Sitting in 15 to 20 feet under the hull and can see bottom. You get the advantage of the floro and the sensitivity of the brade. If you don't use joining knotes, find one of the many Blood Knotes that you line and use it. Best of luck Quote
Bream Master Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 When I use Flouro., I use Seaguar. Gamma has good flouro. too. Both are pretty high in price, to me at least. A good compromise is to use a copolymer. Tell us how the Cabela's brand is. Cheers. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 13, 2007 Super User Posted April 13, 2007 dodgeguy, For $6.99 (on sale at BPS) you can buy a 1000 yard spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 (19.5 lb test). Get the green and you will find this to be nearly invisible in clear water. Hybrid is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymer. The refraction index of this line is not a perfect match to water, but you will be surprised just how stealthy it is. Most importantly, it is much stronger and much more manageable than pure fluoro. Bass Bass Bass Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Take the advice of an earlier post and save yourself the aggravation and time of spooling your reels with Flouro. Use your Braid and tie a 3 to 4 foot leader of flouro with a joining blood knot. I have wasted so much money on flouro that I am sick of trying to make it work, it creates nothing but hassles and headaches for me. I even posted a problem with yo-zuri ultra soft #6 recently, I had BPS send me another spool of line because I was able to break the line on the first spool with my hands. After re spooling my rods with the second batch I went fishing only to have the line snap from the weight of a rattle trap in mid cast! It took me a while however, i finally learned my lesson! Quote

ThaKing Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I tried Vanish a few years ago and the backlashes made me swear off fluoro for what I thought was forever. . Thats the same reason why i didnt want to use fluoro again. I had vanish on my baitcasting reel and mostly every cast would give me a minor backlash. Now i know it wasnt just me. Quote
Garnet Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I had lots of problems with flouro until I learned to spool up a few days early and let it sit. Also do not change line very often. Here in the land of zebra mussles were we rety often I change line when casting is effected. Garnet Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 13, 2007 Author Super User Posted April 13, 2007 i soaked it in warm water and spooled it wet. Quote
Bassassasin12 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I like P-Line Flouroclear for a true flourocarbon for the same reasons RockvilleMDangler stated. But I recently tried the Yo-Zuri Hybrid and I love it so far. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 Hey Dodge did you happen to read the Tackle tour tests on fluro that was posted a while back. It might help you narrow down some of your choices Quote
Bass1 Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 P-line Halo for pure flouro or Yozuri Hybrid for copolymers. Stay away from Vanish. Quote
shortbasser Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I have been using Gamma for 2 seasons now. It definitely has less memory and is softer than all of the other brands I have used. Granted it is expensive but I only use it for plastics. Haven't replaced it this year and so far no problems. I occasionally use a conditioner which helps with the "lashes". I like the KVD brand. Not sticky and lasts longer. I gave up on Stren/BPS/Triplefish and P-line. Too much memory with all of those brands. Shortbasser Quote
BassBeat101 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 I recently made my first trip into the world of fluoro/copolymo/non-mono fishing line, and on a slightly educated whim I went with the P-Line CXX in moss green for my setup. It handles much better than I thought it was going to- a hair difference at first, since I had never fished with anything but mono before, but I soon realized it was just as smooth as my normal go-to line of Sufix Elite - I haven't caught anything of substantial size on it as of yet, but knot strength seems solid and I like the lack of visibility.
