The only thing the old Cuardo and the new one have in common is the name, completely different animal; much better reel the new one, equal and sometimes better in many aspects even to the old Chronarch SF except in one department: the weight, issue that does not exist with the CU100D.

Raul is the expert, but I bought a 100 DSV & never found weight the issue. I love this reel. Strong, reliable, smooth beyond belief, but not heavy. BUT, it (with my medium-large size hands) is not easily palmed. I can't say it's better than the old version as I never owned the older version but have read alot about it. The new Curado, to me, is truly great. I don't see how you can go wrong ever buying a new Curado.

I say weight is "issue" in the 200 & 300 size models, at almost 10 ounces they feel like a brick, the 100 size weights less than 7.5 ounces, weight issue in the 100 size is no weight issue.  :o

My only beef with the new ones is that increased weight, old Curados weighted 8.6 ounces, now at almost 10 ......  :-?, mathematically speaking 1, 2 or 3 only represent an abstract concept in your mind, that number translated into the real world experience is a completely diffrent experience, brick vs feather.

It's really not fair to compare the two.  The new ones carry nearly twice the price tag.  Of course the new ones should be better.  I have found that to be true thus far.  The old ones are as still as bullet proof as they come though.

If you can get your hands on the old SF Curados then buy them and never look back, they are an amazing bang for the buck reel.  I own two newer ones (a 101 and a 201) and they are superior reels by all accounts but they are more expensive and their reliability has not been tested to the extent of the older ones (but that is only because they haven't been around as long).  Both are great but if you want to spend an extra $100 for an extra 3-4 feet in casting distance then go for it.

The only problem I see with trying to purchase the old Curados is that since they have such great reputation NIBs are selling pretty much for what they used to cost retail and you have the new Citica  with new technology, better finish and features only found in the top of the line Curado family ( Curado SF ) at the same price.

Too bad for you if you lost the monster sales the retailers had on old Curados last year, 65 bux for a NIB was a steal ( got a few ones  :o at that price ) .

I bought a new Curado a while back and I've used it on 7-8 trips.    I know everyone here says it's a better reel than the previous model, but I think I LIKE the previous model better.   Especially the SF models.   Don't get me wrong, it's a very well made reel but the 200 model is a heavy sucker and certainly larger than the previous model.

I think comparing the Curado BSF and the Curado D would be like comparing apples and oranges. They are only similar in name. The innards of the D are technically superior and an improvement over the BSF. HeGearing, Attached sideplate, Dartanium Drag, Lower reel foot and magnumlite spool are just a few of the goodies that increased the price to $199 but it also makes it a very sweet reel. Even the Citica D's innards blow away the Curado BSF and for a cheaper price to boot!

If I am not mistaken the 100Ds are lighter that the 200BSF, weighing in at about 7.4 oz? Don't quote me on it but dang, the 201Ds are fat pigs! ;D

I have both the D and BSF and love both but the Curado D (I have the 201D) is so sweet! Now this doesn't mean that I no longer like my BSF, because it is still an excellent reel. It just MHO that they are two different beasts for which a side by side comparison just isn't right.

One of the neatest things I like about the D is that I was able to toss this small, homemade inline spinner without a single loop of backlash, and with a heavy action steelhead rod rated for 1/2 - 1 3/4 oz lures that has no business tossing something that light. I am willing to concede that the BSF probably could have done it too. Nonetheless, a testament to the excellence of both reels.

All Hail Curado!

I remember when I got my first Curado, It was small, Really low seat, and could cast any lure of any wieght, nothing could come close to it in my mind. To hear people compair to it to the newer model tickles me. Sure it lacks this and that and its big and high on the seat against a new one...its old tech, but it was the best reel for it's time and is still being sought after and compaired to new lines of reels. I see it as the Shelby Cobra of reels.....It was awesome then and still very impressive today! I love the new reels also but I have no problem casting a old Bantam 200 , they still have that Cadillac feel to me. Get a new one and if you dont like it Im sure you can sell it here.

I have an older 201 SF. I have fished the newer 201 a couple of times and I like my older one better. After fishing the new one all day, it was to big and bulky and did not seem to perform any better. The one thing I did notice was that the new one felt somewhat smoother but I just like the feel of my older Curado better.

If you like the old Curado, this new Castic seems to look exactly like it.
