aggiebassin Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 i will be making a journey to cabela's during spring break (this week) and i am in the market for a new spinning outfit. i am thinking either the shimano symetre or okuma inspira. i have always been a shimano guy, but i have read great things about the okuma spinning reels. i know the shimano will be a good real which is leaning me towards it, unless some of you have a good argument for the okuma Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 12, 2007 Super User Posted March 12, 2007 I've heard good things about the Okuma reels and quite a few of the guys in my club fish them. But I have been leery of them. Why go with anything other than a proven product like Shimano or Daiwa? Quote
bugman Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Okuma is the largest MFG of reels in the world. I'm not sure that adds up to quality though. I Steelhead fish the Eire tribs and see that many good fishermen use the Okuma spinning reels. Those big trout can really give a reel a workout so I think they would hold up fine with bass. Quote
Tucson Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Never used a Shimano (heard lots of good things about them) but have been using an Inspira 30 for a couple of years. Very happy witht the Okuma, you get an awful lot of reel for the money. Very smooth, zero problems to this point. I was so impressed with Okuma that I bought an Okuma flyrod and reel this year. Both are great products. Quote
Bushwacker Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I have Shimano Symtre's, Spirex's, and Stradic's and I have the Okuma Inspira, Metaloid, and the Epixor. Dollar for dollar I really like the Okumas a lot better. The only problem that I have had is with the bail closing on an Okuma during the cast a couple times, but I tighted it up and its good to go. I actually order 3 new Okumas this spring and no Shimanos. I would not be afraid to recommend Okuma to anyone. Quote
Captain Hook Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I'm with the Okuma bunch. I have used Shimano's for a long time and loved them. However, I decided to give Okuma a try and was IMPRESSED. For the money, the Okuma's appear to give more bang for the buck...especially their "Stinson" model... Quote
Pa Angler Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Everyone has their favorite but I use the Okuma Aveon 30 & 40 spinning reels and I'm very happy with them excellent anti-reverse, awesome drag and very very smooth. Quote
