Sharpie Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I got a good bait casting setup. I want a good spinning rod set up. I would like to cast lighter baits. Primarily Plastic and small jigs. What is a good setup with a price limit of 300 combined (rod and reel). If you need anymore info on me to help let me know. Thanks ERC Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 For that price point, I'd go with a St. Croix Avid and a Shimano Stradic. Quote
mike bat Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 well i know a avid and a stradic would be a great set up ,,,, but for that price i have a st croix legened elite and a stradic ... you can see pics of it over in the fishing flea market section of this fourm Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 For that price point, I'd go with a St. Croix Avid and a Shimano Stradic. Specifically, Avid AS70MF/ Shimano Stradic 2500FH. Quote
RiskKid. Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 For that price point, I'd go with a St. Croix Avid and a Shimano Stradic. Specifically, Avid AS70MF/ Shimano Stradic 2500FH. This is the ticket Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 I'd back off on the reel and get a Gloomis rod. I did it and am quite happy. The rod is way more important than the reel imo. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 My choice would be a Quantum Energy Pti-a 20 and a St. Croix Avid AS66MF. I have two of these the Energy reels and with a full season and half of use, both have performed perfectly. They have been an excellent reel for the money. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 Loomis and Stradic, no brainer. Quote
Hot n Tot Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 St. Croix Avid and Stradic, but the 7' rod is too long. Get the 6'-6" ML model AS66MLF Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have gotten many good opinions but you're the one who must make the final choice. Have fun. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 I agree on the Avid rod. For reels, go with either a Stradic or a Daiwa Tierra. The Daiwa reels have more choices for size (2000, 2500 and 3000), and I think this allowed me to better balance the rod and reel. My Avid 6'9" ML rod just does NOT feel balanced with a 2500 Stradic (and the other choices are either 1000 or 3500). With my Tierra 2000, it's real nice Quote
volpster31 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 i agree with the st. croix avid AS66MF..its a great rod.i paired mine with a shimano symetre reel & love the setup..i dont have any complaints at all. i got my rod from reeds & they offer free shipping http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=659 youll even have a few bucks left over for more lures!!!!! ;D Quote
Captain Hook Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Whatever you settle on, you NEED to give Troutlet.com a look. I have not found ANY place with lower prices... Quote
Pa Angler Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Take a look at the BPS and Cabela's combo deals before you buy they have some good deals at a discount you may get more for your money then buying separately. Quote
