fireman0713 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Hello, I'm in the market for a new rod for an older spinning reel that I have. It a Shimano, Spirex 2000. I'm looking for advise on a make and brand, any suggestions? Thanks, Steve Quote
fireman0713 Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Whats your budget range.. I like to stay around $50 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 23, 2007 Super User Posted March 23, 2007 Try the Fenwick eagle GT, they sell for $ 44.00 to $ 54.00. I just picked two up last weekend.Sweet rod for the money! :) 8-) : Quote
franklinfishfinder Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 For 10 or 15 dollars more you can get the st. croix triumph series rods. I own a few and love them. for the money you spend you get a really good rod. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 23, 2007 Super User Posted March 23, 2007 A decent rod for that reel would be a Berkley Lightning Rod for 35.00. That's the same out fit I started out with. Quote
Hawgin Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I have used both the Fenwick Eagle GT, and the St. Croix Triumph, and there is no comparison between the two. The Eagle GT is lighter, more sensitive, and cheaper. It is a great rod, and because of it I now own mostly Fenwick's, and I am in the process of replacing my last St. Croix. BTW if anyone wants a barely used St. Croix Triumph casting rod I'm looking to sell it. Quote
Captain Hook Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I concur with the Fenwick. I have a HMG 66ML and it is phenomenal. I've put an Okuma "Stinson" SI30 in it and I'm good for life with that combo... Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 8, 2007 Super User Posted April 8, 2007 Fenwick rods, at any price point, are tough to beat. Quote
Pa Angler Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I'd take a look at the BPS Bionic Blade an excellent rod for the money. Quote
