I have been using power pro for a few years and am very satisfied.

I know there are other braids out there with excellent reps, but I have an opportunity to pick up some of the stren super braid at a very nice price.

I would like to hear how it compares with pp or other braids.

A discount ain't no bargain if the product sucks

thanks

Avid, the only thing I can tell you is from my own experience. I'm sure your gonna get mixed answers as always but here it goes. I used to use the Stren braid and Spider Wire until I found this forum. They both are good at first until after about a month of use, and then you will see why I no longer use them. Hooksets become lost fish with a hook still intact in the fish's mouth. >;) They both dry rot or something. :-[ I started reading this forum about seven months ago and through recommendations from members I now only use Power Pro and have started using Sufix a little. Have not had this hookset problem since. I hope this helps a little. :)

Blaine,

I never had the Stren break - ever.  If my bait was hung and it wouldn't come loose I had to cut the line several times.  Maybe you had a bad spool?  Did you buy several packs over time and still had the same problem?  What type of knot?

me and my dad both used spiderwire alot a few years ago and we never had it break either.  if you were hung up you either bent the hook or cut the line b/c it would not break.

i'm not saying spiderwire is great or even good.....but it is strong and lasts for a long time

Yes it was several spools over a period of 2-3 years. I use the palomar knot. I know it wasn't the knot because when I got hung up the line would break at about half of it's pound test rating. Like I said, the line was fine at first, then after a while I would experience this problem. I just got tired of losing fish on hooksets and made the switch. Problem solved for me. :)

Just bought another spool of Sufix braid today and i've had good luck with it before so i havent seen a reason to switch its strong and casts great

Avid, Super Braid was the first braid I tried and I had good results with it. When I bought new braid I purchased power pro since I heard so much about it, and wanted to give it a shot. I'll say I haven't noticed much if any difference in the two braids. But I don't use braid on all my rigs, usually just in very heavy cover. Hope this helps.

I used Power Pro until the Stren Super Braid was introduced. The Stren is smoother and casts better. I gave away all the Power Pro I had. I still use Spiderwire Original, Spiderwire Stealth, and Fireline for some applications, but Stren is one I use most.

thanks,

this is good info.  I seemed to remember hearing good things about the stren but wanted to confirm it.

Like I said I can get some at an excellent price so will give it a try.

I started off using spiderwire stealth and did not like it.  Switched to Power pro and have not looked back.

It sounds like a couple of heavily discounted spools of the stren will be worth a try.

good luck everyone and have fun.

Avid, I really like the Stren on spinning reels better than Power Pro. It's not as stiff and handles great. I have never had the Stren Braid break and I have had the same line on for a whole season before.

Avid, I've been using pp for the last 2 years and really liked it, but after all the talk about sufix braid I bought a spool. I've fished it twice and really liked it. I can't tell after 2 times out but I think I may be switching over to sufix braid only. Try a spool I don't think you'll be sorry.
