fish-fighting-illini Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I've seen a couple of posts in various spots about who people thought made the house brand reels and rods. I'd just like to see it all in one thread. In your opinion who makes Gander, Bass Pro, Cabellas reels and rods to "THE BEST OF YOUR knowledge". Opinions are fine as long as they are based on observations. And no fights on this one LOL we will assume everyone is right! It doesn't have to be the whole manufacturers line. IE Gander Guide series 30 are made by xyz reel co. Or Bass pro Qualifier are by ABC co Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 3, 2007 Super User Posted April 3, 2007 bass pro high end reels are made by pflueger.bass pro makes there own rods including the blanks.i've heard cabela's rods are loomis blanks but i don't know for sure. diawa and silstar both make reels for cabela's. Quote
TrickyVT1887 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I work at Gander and know that the GuideSeries reels are made by Shakespeare, and the rods come from several different manuacturers Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 3, 2007 Super User Posted April 3, 2007 i heard they were made by the pflueger division of shakespeare. Quote
largemouthslayer Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Does anyone know who makes Dick's rods ? The reason why asked is there is a guy I fish with every week that is one of the best tournament guys in Georgia his name is Jimmy Waley and he has at least a 100 custom rods and all he will fish with is Dick's 7 IMG rods. He swears by them. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 The guy at the reel counter told me that Browning makes alot of BPS reels. I have to agree with him because, I bought one of the Citori combos for my grandson that BPS had on sale at Thanksgiving. When I went to register it at Browningfishing.com it went to the BPS site. If you look at the Citori and alot of the BPS reels they look identical. Falcon Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 4, 2007 Super User Posted April 4, 2007 .i've heard cabela's rods are loomis blanks but i don't know for sure. I heard they were Croix's ;D ;D Quote

Falcon that's because bps bought the rights to the browning brand name.all the browning reels are made by pflueger as far as i know.browning was owned by quantum and at that time all their reels were made by quantum. Browning® has licensed BPS® as their only outlet for Browning® fishing. BPS didn't purchase the name. Same way when Quantum® was building their reels they were licensed to do so. No outright purchase of the Browning® name has ever happened. Quote
moby bass Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 I purchased a Quest MH baitcasting rod for my son at Dick's. Seemed like a really nice rod for the money, especially since it was on sale. I thought this would be a good inexpensive rod for him to learn to baitcast with. I don't know who makes it. Unfortunately, we haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 I was just recently reading tackle reviews on the latest Pinnacle line of reels and that article stated that Silstar/Pinnacle is making many of the house reels for BPS and Cabela's. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 5, 2007 Super User Posted April 5, 2007 I don't care who makes BPS rods...........I like em alot, and BPS stands behind them. Also if you guys have a Gander Mtn. nearby, check out there house brand rods, I bought a few last week and can't wait to see how they fish. They were very reasonably priced for what was offerd, IM-7 blanks, Fuji reel seats, Fuji Hardloy guides, and very very light, as light if not lighter than my St Croix Triumph rod, I got a 6'6" Med/fast spinning, and a 6'6"MH/fast casting for $49 each. HomersTomaco Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 HAHAHA loomis blanks for cabelas rod. GEEEZ. CArt7 has it right, most companies dont make there own reels. Although a lot of cabelas reels are Diawa, which makes there own reels. Pflueger, Shakespeare, Silstar, Bass Pro, Browning, Pinnacle, etc, they all come from the same place in china, slap a name brand on em and sell them. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 6, 2007 Super User Posted April 6, 2007 that would be the cabela's xml rod that i heard has a loomis blank.fyi it's supposed to be a very nice rod. Quote
