BuzzMan Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I use Berkley 20lb mono right now on my jig rod, 7ft BPS Extreme w/ Shimano Curado 6.2:1. I have fished jigs for about 2 years now and I know I can get better at it. What are the advanage of braid over mono? Will I FEEL more with braid? Detect bites better? Besides breaking strength over mono what other advice. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted April 2, 2007 Super User Posted April 2, 2007 Mono can stretch up to 20 - 30 percent. Braid does not stretch. You will feel more. You will detect more bites, especially with a jig. And your hooksets will be more solid which is a good thing with a jig, but it can be a bad thing if you fish crankbaits or jerkbaits with braid because you can rip the lure out of their mouths. Braid is easier than mono for a fish to see, but where I fish a jig this really doesn't matter. Some people will add flluorocarbon leaders to their braid, since the fluoro is virtually invisible in water. If you do a search you will see a plethora of information on this subject covering every question you could ask. BTW, welcome to our forum, Buzzman. Quote
