What do you guys use when fishing with frogs?  Some say heavy rod with lots of tip.  Some say Med-Heavy.   What about length?

I know I'll fish this rig every once in a while.  What should I get?

I like a 7' heavy, fast (sometimes extra fast).  A good barometer for you is to look at what you use for a c-rig rod.... may sound strange but almost everyone I fish with uses a similar or the same rod for those two things.  In fact, if you are strapped for cash, you might just use the c-rig rod for frogs.  At minimum I would try frogs on a 7' hvy or med-hvy before you buy a dedicated set up.  Either borrow one or use something you have to make the comparison.  I'd say if you fish heavy weeds, pads, timber, etc. go heavy and if it's not too gunked up, a MH will likely be ok.

Try out a pistol grip too may be old fashioned but you wont belive how accurate u are with one i just wish there where more options with them i mean not many companys make them anymore at least with a mod tip and a heavy action i have 3 falcon pistol grips 6 footers heavy action but can still hurl a 3/8 jig or a mag zoom lizard with ease its gonna be what i use for frogs my first yr....

you don't need to spend alot for a frog rod. You can buy good rods for alot less than the one you decided on, I am not saying that it is not a good rod, just trying to save you some money. But you want a 7' rod MH or H with a fast tip. And fish a good line like Power Pro. 8-)

I use a Fenwick 7' HMG- H action

i first had a g-loomis frog rod .... great rod i really liked this rod and it preformed well in the salad .... the olny draw back for me was the longer cork ....  for some reason the cork would always get in the way .... so i sold the loomis and pick up a st croix legened tourney bass frogin rod .... wow much liter (in over all weight) and 3inches less cork ... this rod is killer i matched it up with a diawa zillion ... this whole combo is so nice .... id suggest takin a look at the legened tourney bass frog rod before you spend any cash on a stick .... ;D

I've been using the Loomis frog rod for about a month now...  I must say at first my impressions were not good, felt a bit on the heavy side and large in the reel seat.

After I've caught a few good fish on it I absolutely love it...  Has a LOT of backbone, rips them right out.

I've been using a 7' St. Croix Avid MHF matched with a Castaic 200sf and 50# braid. It seems well balanced and powerful enough. I don't have a 'heavy' power rod, so I have nothing to compare it's performance to.

i use a 7 ft medium pro qualifier. the biggest thing with frog fishin is waiting untill you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook. if you try to set it as soon as he gulps it under you may miss the fish. its kinda like buzzbait fishing.

I find that a 7' MH is just about perfect for frogs, I have several rods that length/power. 2 Fenwick's that are XF action, I like these for jig/worm's, and C-rigs as. The one I prefer for Frogs in moderate cover is my BPS Extreme, this rod has a bit softer tip, I fish frogs on braid exclusivly, and  I feel the softer tip lets the bass inhale the frog a little better without me ripping it away from it. Now If I am in real heavy slop, I  will bypass the the MH rods and go for my new 7' heavy, fast St Croix Premier. I just bought this rod this winter, after fishing the frogs last summer in some nasty milfoil mats, I needed a stout rod for that, the MH worked OK, but I feel better with the H rod in that situation. This application is where I ALMOST bought a Loomis rod, I was at Gander Mtn. and they had the Loomis frog rod, I was all set to buy it when I browsed the St Croix's, the preimier was lighter, cost less, so I went with that insted. I really didn't like how heavy the Loomis frog rod was, felt like a baseball bat.
