I went to the store on friday, and they had Berkley Powerbait on sale. I read so much about tubes, I thought I would try some. I got some pumpkin 4" tubes and 7" pumpkin worms.

I'm out in the boat with my new X-point hooks trying to decide how to try out these tubes. I decided to feed it onto the hook, skirt end first, then make the point of the hook come out the solid end of the tube. I slid it around so it was all past the end of the curve, and the skirt was past the eye of the hook. No weight mind you. I then casted out. Low and behold, I have a top water lure...that makes quite a comotion on the water....cool. Third cast out was the first of 6 hard strikes by some decent size bass (for that lake).

So, how do people normally fish tubes???

in open water, such as rock piles for smallies, a lot of guys use a jighead inserted inside the tube with the eye sticking out through the top of the tube.  for fishing heavier cover, i like just a texas rigged tube with a pegged weight or weightless.

I use a texas rigged tube to flip the willow grass on Wilson when it's hot. I've also fished it on a jighead letting it freefall down the bluffs on a spinning rod with limited success.

But, as it's been said, tubes are primarily dragged along sandy bottoms for smallmouth.

I like to t-rig them with a small weight.  I'll throw them around weeds and work them just like a plastic worm or I'll drop them along side standing timber and let them fall like a jig.

I use tube weights with rattles Texas rigged.

Thanks guy's, I see a lot of reference to them as in having rods for them and being favorite lures, but I wasn't sure if they were technique specific or another type of worm.

Has anyone taken the skirt off of a spinner/buzz bait and put a tube on?? Would that be an advantage?? I have some of those, but I can't remember ever catching a fish with one. I guess I should try them more, and different ways.
