Id say med heavy or heavy with a mod tip IMO a fast tip is good for smaller jigs like say 1/4oz anything more a mod tip works best loads up for me for precise accuracy  the heavy action makes it easier to set that hook, but then again i use pistol grips for all my jiggin !!

Muddy,

For me it would be 7' hvy, fast or ex-fast.  You may like that or may like a MH... unfortunately it's another preference thing.

I use both for jig fishing, the MH rods get the 1/4 and 3/8 jigs while the H rods get the 1/2 and 3/4 oz jigs.  When I fish deep 35-50' it will be with the H because of the need for the heavier jigs.

for a bass jig I go with the heavy.  Just like Jigman said it takes a heavier jig to get down there and stay.  Thus needs more power to set the hook with alot of line out.
