Lucky Craft Man Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I was thinking of getting a G Loomis BRC893 GLX Senko Rod and was wondering if anyone here used this rod. I was hoping to get a good weightless plastics rod and thought this could be a good one. Please let me know what you think of it. Thanks. Quote
The_Natural Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I own that rod, and it is one of my favorite rods. The extra length really aids in pitching lightweight plastics a long ways; it's amazing how much more distance I can get with that rod versus my 7'1" rods. It has a perfect tip, and backbone to spare. There isn't a plastic I don't love to throw with it. You won't be sorry. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Thanks for the response, Natural. Is this rod also good for T-Rigs or do you just stick with weightless plastics on it? I was also wandering what lb-test line do you use? I was thinking of placing 15 lb. flouro. on it (but I also like braid). Quote
lubina Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I second what The Natural said, the rod is just perfect for Senkos and worms. I use Sufix braid 50 lbs in every set I have for soft plastics just be careful not to set the drag too hard. You will love it. Quote
bighed Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I guess I'll throw in my two pennys worth on this subject. I love to fish a weightless Senko, I'd call it my go to bait for sure. The great thing about the lure is that the action is built in on the fall. Watch the lure wiggle as it falls in clear water, it's something that the knockoffs don't copy well. To get the most wiggle out of the lure it needs to be fished on a slack line. Rather than try to feel the bite it's easier to see the bite in the line. IMO, a super sensitive rod like a Loomis would be overkill for this technique. I use a 6 1/2' - 7' Falcon Original or Lowrider, both under a $100, with good results. These rods will cast the bait farther than it would be practical to fish them. How far can you cast and still get a good hook set? How far can you throw into cover and expect to get a fish out? At any rate, I don't know anybody that wouldn't like to have a few GLX's including me. big Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 26, 2007 Super User Posted March 26, 2007 Natural, I'm thinking of buying this same rod - what reel do you use with it? Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 I have a Shimano Curado 100D earmarked for mine (I just purchased this rod from FatFishFarmer) with 15 lb. Flouro. I was also wondering if this rod can be used with Shakeyhead Rigs or is it too heavy? Quote
The_Natural Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I've got my 893 paired with an mg50 spooled with 15lb fluoro. The 893 is a T-rigging machine; I use it for Senkos, lizards, worms, speed craws, tubes, ect. I call it my 'plastics' rod, and it will work very well for all weightless and T-rigged plastics 1/2oz and under. A 7'+, medium-heavy pitching rod seems to be a popular trend right now, and I think this is the best you can do. Quote
lubina Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 what reel do you use with it? TD-Z 105 in mine Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 I received my BRC893 GLX today. I am in love! (don't tell my girlfriend). This rod is unreal. FatFishFarmer is unreal as well (the total purchase price including shippping was $267.50). I don't know how he does it, but I'm glad he does. I can't wait to test it out (the ice should be totally gone in a few days). Quote
