Bass Bass Bass Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I have been reading the dialog pertaining to the yo-zuri ultra soft line and decided to string my spinning rods with the #6 (11.9lb test strength) like people have been recommending. After stringing my rods I tried tying on a hard jerk bait and the line snapped right before the knot. This happened 3 times in a row until I finally decided I would wrap the line around my hand and pull. To my amazement the line snaped with only 1/2 of my strength and the line was not even strong enough to hurt my hands. I stripped 2 feet of line off the reel and tried again and the same thing happened. Is this common?? If so how does anyone fish with this line?? Although it is stronger than Berkley vanish I still can see how I am going to use this line unless I am fishing for gold fish out of a Chinese restaurants fish tank?? Quote
NEBassMan Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 that def. sounds like you got a bad batch. i've never had a problem like that. i would return it and exchange for a new one. Jason Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 25, 2007 Super User Posted March 25, 2007 Bad batch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exchange it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Bass Bass Bass Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 I bought the line through the mail with cabella's, I am going to call them today to see if they will take it back. Thanks, I hope it is just a bad batch. Quote
huskertko Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Sounds like a bad batch, I have the same line on my spinning rig and throw a 5/8 oz jerkbait all the time and never had that problem. By the way, I am very bad at retying, I don't do it nearly enough and still haven't had the same problem you are describing. Quote
skillet Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I sure hope it is a bad batch like everyone says . Have just come across a sporting goods store that carries it (according to the web site) in Memphis and had decided to give it a try. Keep us up to date on what you find out, please.... As Ever, Skillet Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Just got done fishing Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft for the first time last saturday. I am now a true believer of the stuff. Its handled great!!! Quote
scbassin Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Are you wetting the line before you slide the knot tight? Quote
Bass Bass Bass Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 yes I wet the line before tying the knot...like I said I can pull it between my hands and it will snap. I did run the line through a rag with silicone on it when I was spooling my reels, would that weaken the line (i think I am losing my mind)?? Also, I read on Yo-zuri's website that #6 has the strength of 11.9lb test....is this true or did I buy 6lb test line?? This whole thing has me very puzzled/frustrated since April 1st is this weekend!!! Cabela's is sending me another 600 yards of the #6 at no cost (they are great to do business with), hopefully it was just a bad batch of line. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 26, 2007 Super User Posted March 26, 2007 Must be a "bad batch." The line cannot be broken by hand, or at least I can't! It is strong and tough. If it was (generally) anything like you described, that would be TOTALLY unacceptable and I would never use it for anything. The spool you received had to be defective for some reason or another. When you get your new line I think you will like it, I do. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I got a spool of defective Trilene not to long ago. It isn't rare to get a bad batch every great once and a while. Quote
